Paragon is out with yet another dictionary for the iPhone/iPod Touch. This time it’s the “Duden German Explanatory Dictionary” which offers 150,000 up-to-date keyword entries, including 10,000 new words and phrases relevant to modern life.

Again, the company’s proven SlovoEd engine is running the show in the back, ensuring the application is light (database is well compressed) and the word searches are performed fast.

Features include:

  • 10,000 words and phrases standing for new notions “relevant for nowadays German reality,” e.g. “Erlebnisgesellschaft”, “Genfood”, “MP3-Player”, “Plasmabildschirm”, “seniorengerecht”, “Zweiklassenmedizin” and others
  • 140 typical for the modern German language affixes, such as “neo-”, “pseudo-”, “-bewusst”, “-wirksam”
  • Advice on word usage helps to avoid mistakes in linguistically sensitive cases, such as with the words “pervers” and “turken” and inform that recently often used “taubstumm” should be substituted by “gehorlos”
  • 8,000 audio pronunciations for the most difficult words

“Duden German Explanatory Dictionary” is available for 29.99 EUR via download from the Apple AppStore.
