PDA phone has become a great help to the business world. Not even in business but to other people who just want technology on the palm of their hand. So what made Samsung SCH i760 so different from the other PDA phones? They must have put a lot of thought in it and made it into something extra ordinary. Some call it the swiss army knife of PDAs, some call it the iPhone killer. Although I wonder why that is so, iPhone never really did its job as a PDA phone. Anyways, we’ll find out later about this intriguing piece of gadget that at first look you’ll know it means business.
Design
Great news! Samsung SCH i760 goes big! Literally! As in the design is bulky, not like the usual Samsung design like it’s slim and light like a toy. But hey, it is a PDA phone it should be expected. If you can deal with Sony Ericsson P990i or later, you can deal with this phone.
• Why do I say it’s bulky? Because it measures 4.4 inches high, 2.2 inches wide and 0.7 inch thick, and it weighs 5.2 ounces. This smartphone isn’t about being thin and light AT all.
• The screen measures 2.8 inches, and is a touch screen. It’s bright and colorful, which I really adore when it comes to Samsung, the resolution is amazing. Since it is a touch screen you can easily access applications using a stylus or your finger. Beware of fingerprints though!
• Now the great design of this gadget, just below the screen is the external alphanumeric keypad. Not all PDAs have this, or if there is even one. And so you don’t have to use the virtual dialer to make a phone call or a virtual keyboard for texting.
• The other designs are the Navigation toggle which is beside the external keypad, the clear button which is above the navigation toggle. And the talk and end buttons are on the left and right side of the screen.
• Another thing that made this gadget bulky is the sliding qwerty keyboard. When you use the qwerty keyboard the orientation of the screen will automatically change from portrait to landscape.
Features
PDAs or PDA phones almost always have the same OS, it’s how they add some cool interface that could separate them from the others. Like the HTC touch that has a cube like interface to switch from one application to another. I guess when it comes to interface, nothing can beat the iPhone yet.
• Samsung has the latest windows mobile 6 OS. So you’ll still get same features like Microsoft Office Suite.
• For connections, it has intergrated wi-fi support and Bluetooth.
• You can play mp3, wma and other kind of format on windows media player 10 mobile. Oh and let’s not forget short clips, long clips and movies.
• Samsung i760 has an expansion slot, a microSD. And can support up to 2 gig of storage.
• It also has a 1.3 megapixel camera, which can surprisingly take decent shot on average light.
• Battery life can squeeze 3.5 hours of talk time and 7 days of standby time.
Pros and Cons
Cons
• The stylus is in the weird location. It’s the little knob on the lower right side.
• The talk and end button are difficult to press, and often times when you press the talk button, it’s easy shifts the slider screen.
Pros
• The Samsung SCH-i760 features a slider design with a full QWERTY keyboard, external dialpad, and touch screen.
• The Windows Mobile 6 smartphone also offers good performance and has integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
• a 1.3-megapixel camera
Price is around 249 to 300 dollars or 11k to 13500 pesos
