2008-01-29 11:52:46 by Nandini in Born Rich

Nandini:

Another uber-interview comes to an end, and here we are with the quirky answers from our Cool Geeks Hubert & Eliane. Check-out!

ubergizmo

1). Lisa: What’s your pick for the Best and Weirdest of C.E.S 2008?

Hubert: My favorites are the uber-thin Plasma TVs - I particularly like the Samsung one, even if that’s not the thinnest. The design is absolutely stunning, and a 50″ display that weighs 25lbs is like a dream. The weirdest is a difficult question, but it’s probably that banner that said “we like clean butts” - it was advertising a fancy Japanese toilet-seat.

Eliane: my best is the Logitech diNovo Mini, the smallest and most beautiful keyboard for media center.

2). Vikas: Hubert and Eliane, you both are involved in your own different niche – engineering and design – so, is Ubergizmo more like a part-time hobby?

Hubert & Eliane:
We both work hard on Ubergizmo but Eliane still runs a design agency that helps companies build great brands. Hubert retired from his full-time job, so by definition, Ubergizmo has become his primary activity. Ubergizmo feels like a hobby because we are totally independent and free of writing about what we want.

3). Nelle: What’s the major difference you experienced while you were working for someone and now handling your own projects? Which part of your professional lives is the most challenging and why?

Hubert:
The major difference is Freedom. Working on a personal projects still requires the creativity, focus and execution that we have when working for an employer, but there is no question that making critical (and sometimes difficult decisions) is the most exciting part of driving your own project.

Eliane:
The most challenging is to keep up with all the things that we have to do daily to deliver many dozens of articles, in several languages... And make them as interesting and as up to date as possible.

4). Vincent: How and when both of you came together as a team? Who came up with the idea behind Ubergizmo?

Hubert & Eliane: Ubergizmo was created in September 2004 on Blogger.com. We are both tech-lovers, but with different talents and points of view: Hubert has an engineering background and Eliane knows how to create a brand and knowing that success often comes from the association of design and technology, it was only natural that we worked together to build Ubergizmo. In a few hours’ time, we started it on Blogger.com. And weeks after, other bloggers had spotted us: “We have another confession. We’ve been cheating on our favorite gadget weblogs. We’ve been lured in by the colorfulness and lucidity of newcomer Ubergizmo. Oh, the others need not worry. We’ll keep them around like scarlet mistresses.”

Eliane was also the person who started Ubergizmo in French, which ultimately lead to supporting six languages. Hubert is an avid “tech blog” reader the idea of creating a blog simply came from the fact that Blogs are a great medium to communicate and discuss about technology or other things.

5). Alex: How would you define Ubergizmo?

Hubert & Eliane:
Ubergizmo is a place where people can read about and discuss consumer electronics and technology. There’s always something new.

6). Bharat: Hubert n Eliane, how do you guys manage to get so much time for so many things? I would appreciate if you can share your working and lifestyle with us... Coz it kinda gets hectic for us.

Hubert & Eliane: Prioritizing: we are capable of doing many things, but the question is “what should we do?”

Being organized: Technology can help: push-email, data synchronization between computers and locations are obvious examples of using technology to save time. Automate anything that you can: backups, maintenance, payments... any repetitive tasks can be automated.

Finally, don’t forget to give yourself a break. To be productive, you have to be functioning! If you take a high-level look, it’s all about time-management.

7). Naveen: Have you made any special New Year resolutions to make UberGizmo more Uber?

Hubert & Eliane:
Everyday, we’re trying to make Ubergizmo more Uber. No particular New Year resolutions.

8). Klaus: What developments does CES 2008 showcased for video game fans and your take on them?

Hubert& Eliane:
We have seen a few TV companies trying to jump into the 3D stereoscopic bandwagon. It is an interesting development. As a “GPU guy”, Hubert would say that computer graphics will remain where most of the improvements are made (in games) - besides from the actual gameplay. CES is so big that there’s something for everyone.

9). Your views on BornRich & Instablogs?

Hubert& Eliane:
BornRich is where we go if we look for new ideas to blow what’s left in the bank. InstaBlogs seem to be growing at a good pace, so congrats to your team!
