Nir Sofer is a very talented software developer of NirSoft utilities. A new utility called PstPassword is available that allows you to recover passwords from protected Outlook Personal Folder (PST) files. This utility can recover the PST passwords of Outlook 97, Outlook 2000, Outlook XP, Outlook 2003, and Outlook 2007.

This is a standalone utility. It does not even require Microsoft Outlook to be installed on the computer. You only need the original PST file that is locked with a password.

As per Nir, password encryption used in the PST format is very weak, and for each password-protected PST file, there are many passwords that can open it. PstPassword provides three different passwords for each password-protected PST file. It’s possible that one of them will be the original password that you typed, or it’s also possible that none of these passwords are identical to the original password that you may have used. However, all 3 passwords provided by PstPassword application will open the PST file without any problems. To know more about this bug in Outlook program, click here.
