It's hard to see how strapping a weighted bag around your cat's neck can lead to "Freedom [and] cat's love", but that's just what is claimed by the folks at BackYard Cat.
The Backyard Cat is a device which trains your pet not to jump, "by disturbing your cat's balance". The one pound bag hangs from Tiddle's neck by cable, and is supposedly tangle-free.
The idea is that your cat can "roam with the feeling of complete freedom", but never leave the yard. It also discourages Kitty from hopping up onto kitchen countertops. I'll quote some of the blurb to horrify you further:
Backyard Cat takes the recreation out of jumping.
Backyard Cat [...] teaches your cat acceptable jumping behaviors.
[The] system includes all of the elements you will need to produce the behavior change in your cat.
Some cats require a few minutes to realize the difference and may jump one or two times before they realize their new limitation.
You know what? If you don't like an animal's behavior, don't invite it into your home. Cats roam, catching and killing critters, just like the natural hunters they are. Attempting to force that nature out of them is not only cruel, but just plain wrong. If you want a passive, well natured toy, go buy an Aibo on Ebay.
