SoftMaker has announced a public beta of SoftMaker Office 2008 for Windows Mobile Pocket PC devices. This is a full fledged office suite for Windows Mobile that lets you open, edit, and save any Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file on your Pocket PC directly and without conversion, retaining all the formatting, functions, and contents of files created using desktop Office.

Here are the key features of SoftMaker Office 2008 for Windows Mobile Pocket PC:

Word processor: TextMaker 2008

- Create PDF files directly with TextMaker optionally with font embedding and even as fillable forms
- Print directly from PlanMaker using “Jetcet Print” or directly to Bluetooth-capable PostScript printer
- save documents in the OpenDocument format
- opens password-protected Microsoft Word files
- Reads and writes numerous additional file formats – HTML, RTF, Pocket Word, ASCII, Unicode
- “Track Changes” tracks all changes made to documents and lets you accept/reject them later
- “SmartText” feature: just type e.g. “asap” and “as soon as possible” will appear (fully customizable)
