Since I do a lot of work on my computer during prime time hours, I miss a lot of shows. I do most of my serious TV watching from network websites on my laptop. Personally, I think video streaming is one of the greatest inventions for those who don’t own a TiVo. Now I can watch Chuck, Heroes, and all my favorite television shows with limited commercial interruptions.

The only thing that I miss is watching my favorite programs on my television itself. Generally I watch them on a tiny screen in the corner while I am doing other work. However, I could get a Neuros Link, which will give my television access to sites such as CBS, Hulu, CNN.com, FanCast, NBC.com, even YouTube.

The Neuros Link can be connected to the television via HDMI, with a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1200 of 1080p. Other features include 1GB of RAM, 4GB of flash, Gigabit Ethernet support, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, and 6 USB 2.0 ports. Control of the Neuros Link is attainable with the wireless Neuros Keymote, a 2.4 GHz keyboard with a trackball mouse.

Right now, this is still in the Gamma phase of launch, but it should be about $299 with no additional subscription fees when becomes available.

Researchers have long been trying to model actual brains in order to build a better computer "brain," and it looks like IBM is now getting a helping hand from none other than DARPA in its attempt to create one that it hopes will one day have the intelligence level of a cat. To that that somewhat unnerving end, DARPA is pouring $4.9 million into a project that'll include five universities and scientists of all stripes, who will work together to create an artificial brain that behaves like a real one right down to the neuron level. As the BBC reports, the researchers are describing this latest initiative as a "180 degree shift in perspective" from previous efforts, as they're now seeking an algorithm first and problems second, as opposed to starting with an objective and devising an algorithm to achieve it. As for DARPA's ultimate goal, well, that's still a bit of a mystery, though let's just say we won't be surprised if future robots start to become very easily distracted.

[Via Daily Tech, image courtesy Mack J, Truth and Beauty Bombs]

Have you ever been squeezing ketchup onto your hamburger or hot dog and thought to yourself “this is boring”? I think that to myself just about every time I get out the ketchup bottle. Now if only there were some sort of silly attachment that I could place on the end of the bottle. That would surely turn an otherwise mundane experience into something wacky and fun.

Yes, I’m being a bit over-dramatic, because honestly it takes maybe a few seconds to squirt some ketchup on a bun. No, it’s not exciting, but does it really need to be? Well if that’s exactly the thing that needs spiced up in your life, then you can get a plastic head to put on the end of your ketchup bottle. Now instead of the stuff coming out the end of a white cap, it’ll come out of some strange guy’s nose. These things will only cost around $4.50, but I think I like my condiment containers just the way they are.

Unlike other tech we've seen that does 3D in one shot, this one sports a pair of lenses and sensors to capture light in stereo, while on the back a 2.8-inch LCD alternates between the two images at 60 fps to give an apparently convincing 3D effect. Better, though, should be the 8.4-inch 3D photo frame under development, and Fuji's Frontier photo labs are also being upgraded to produce lenticular prints (the sort you can tilt left and right to see different things) that are said be "really good." The camera itself is scheduled to drop around September of 2009, but since even looking at the results of your work is going to be a bit of a challenge at first we're not entirely sure how popular the thing will be. Regardless, we're glad someone is paving the way.

Fujifilm's 3D camera gets the hands-on treatment originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 21 Nov 2008 12:11:00 EST. No, you're not looking at some high-precision, multimeter-laden kegerator; the above is a picture from a recent AMD event in which things apparently got a little out of hand. The company started by talking up its upcoming Dragon platform (Phenom II X4, Radeon 4800 graphics, and 7-series chipset), took a few moments to discuss how its new 45nm chips will use 30-50 percent less power than their predecessors, and then threw all notions of sensibility out the window in an attempt to see just how fast the darned things could go. A Phenom II X4 managed 4GHz with air-cooling, 4.4GHz with a refrigerated setup, and finally a "stable" 5GHz on liquid nitrogen. That's mighty fast, but will the chips be quick enough to tackle Intel's mighty Core i7 when stripped of their fancy-pants cooling appendages? We'll see when they ship early next year.

AMD overclocks the snot out of Phenom II processors originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 21 Nov 2008 10:47:00 EST. Whereas the latter has an Xbox 360 feeling, this one gets some clues from Apple's, specially Coverflow and the menu navigation, which reminds me of the first version of the Apple TV and Front Row. One big difference is that myCOMAND is connected to the web, grabbing information wirelessly and presenting it through their own on-screen apps. Looking at the high resolution screens and the feature list, it looks very good:

• Off-board navigation: The GPS is constantly updated, from the maps to the points of interests. It also has a satellite overview and the search language is open: you can write directions without having to follow a format. It looks like the are plugging into Google Maps for this one, although I'm not sure how well the writing will work using their navigation knob.

• Trip assist: This part is quite nice, grabbing information pertaining your planned trip from different web sources and presenting it in a useful manner. You can, for example, see the weather forecast for the trip, as well as giving you the possibility to make hotel and restaurants reservations from the system itself.

• World radio: Instead of using a normal radio, this one plugs into the web to access all the stations available. The menu gives the possibility to access radio via genre. More interesting is the idea of storing your music in a web server and accessing it through the system directly, without the need to connect an digital music player or storing things locally.

• Internet telephony: It has support for voice over IP systems like Skype.

• Web browser: They also include a web browser, in case you need to get more information than the one provided with the thin clients above.

• YouTube: For huh... hmmm. Some reason.

The navigation knob, which looks similar to the Powermate, is simpler than the iDrive 4.0. Our Jalopnik comrades will have to try it to see if their user interface approach is better or not.

The arrival of the iPhone has generated quite a positive response from mobile games publishers and developers, but the volume of paid-for mobile game downloads has nonetheless flatlined across North America and Western Europe, according to Juniper Research.

The report titled “Mobile Games: Subscription & Download 2008-2013 (Fifth edition)” found that although the retail value of the global mobile games market is expected to rise from $5.4 billion in 2008 to more than $10 billion in 2013, the potential for growth in many key markets is being dampened by a combination of limited on-portal revenue share for publishers and poor games marketing.

Report author Dr Windsor Holden argues that Apple’s model where publishers get 70% of the revenue generated is “incredibly attractive” to games developers hence they’re jumping on-board. “The danger is that if operators do not respond with a similar business model, publishers faced with low margins may simply exit Java completely, thereby reducing consumer choice in the longer term,” he added.

The report also found that while ad-funded downloads are growing in popularity, the revenues accrued from advertising are unlikely to be sufficient for developers or operators. With CPM rates likely to fall in the face of pressures on advertising budgets, advertising would be largely employed by publishers as a means of monetizing older content.

However, Juniper’s study remained optimistic about prospects for growth in regions such as the Indian Sub Continent, Africa/Middle East and South America. Two key reasons are: increased mobile adoption, and low levels of penetration of both games consoles and fixed Internet. These in turn contributed to make a mobile phone the de facto gaming device.

Other findings from the Juniper report include:

China and the Far East will remain the largest regional market for mobile games throughout the period covered by the report.

Global revenues from in-game advertising will rise significantly from 2008 to 2013.

Operators need to reduce data charges further for out of bundle customers to encourage casual mobile Internet usage and thereby stimulate the mobile entertainment market

More information about the report is available from Juniper’s website.

Trust the Koreans to roll out this portable media player that not only handles a wide variety of audio and video formats, it also boasts the ability to keep you entertained via pre-loaded Flash games including 'Mini Game Heaven', 'Super Action Hero', 'Penoa jeongi', 'Punupunupong' and 'Come2us Soccer 2006'. The MF101 PMP will have 1GB of internal memory which frankly, isn't decent enough to qualify it within PMP ranks, although it does come with a ARM 922T 192Mhz processor and a 2.4" QVGA TFT LCD (320 x 240 resolution) display with 260 thousand colors, allowing you to milk your compressed video for all its worth. Prices start from less than $100 onwards. Would be nice to see a memory card slot of some sort though.
