Michael Laut has dreamt up of this conceptual AC unit that not only works quietly to help keep you asleep like a baby at night, it is also environmentally friendly just like its color. This wall-mounted device will induce air via ionization, eliminating the normally loud buzz of the AC unit that hangs outside of your home. It will also make use of condensation produced by the compressor to water any plants or vegetation under it, giving you a legitimate excuse to turn on the AC even when it isn't too hot outside. Too bad this is but a concept as I would love to see this hit the market.

Remember SunTable? After some delay and well-placed design touch-ups, the table made from teak, stainless steel and you guessed it, solar cells is now shipping. Better yet, it's no longer priced at $3,600 either. For $2,200, UPS will ship the 45-pound weatherproof, 120 volt table with enough battery storage for about 4-hours of laptop / TV use or 6-hours of night time lighting from a 25 watt bulb -- after a 4-hour direct sunlight charge mind you. As pricey as it is, we're feeling strangely compelled by our fear of the omniscient baby-Gore to place an order for the Engadget victory garden.

Gallery: The $2,200 solar powered SunTable is now shipping

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

This is me, . . . weeell, on a really good hair day, with make-up and clothes (instead of the PJs I usually write in.) PosePrints made this up for me, to demonstrate their unique, personalized stationary.

Usually, I scoff at look-alike characters, avatars and such, but I have to admit these gals captured something of the real me. Or else, I'm just flattered.

The mother-daughter team created an easy to use website where you can design yourself step-by-step. Just click on the "design " tab, and once you decide on a design you like, click "personalize this design with my pose" and you will be taken to the sketch page. Here, use the arrows to scan all of the available facial variables and accessories, and customize your person by clicking on specific features. When you are happy with your "pose," click "Save Model" and you will then be prompted to "Personalize Message" (if they are invites, thank you cards, or snappy notecards, like mine).

To customize even more, such as "I want a different hair-do, my Baby Phat pants suit for clothes, and a unique background design," then they charge an up-front $50 for Jen's customized artwork, plus the cost of cards and shipping. For me, they used a photo (which they took from my Facebook page) for more likeness.

For weddings, dinner parties, or baby showers, etc, you could do a cute silhouette card, like this:

$50.00 for 25 cards. A deal for such a unique gift.

The new RFID Passports designed and created to be hack proof can be hacked in less than an hour using a cloning tool. British researchers embedded pictures of Osama bin Laden and a suicide bomber onto a set of chips and then tested them. They came up as “real” according to the agency that sets e-passport standards which is very worrying.

Using his own software, a publicly available programming code, a £40 card reader and two £10 RFID chips, Mr van Beek took less than an hour to clone and manipulate two passport chips to a level at which they were ready to be planted inside fake or stolen paper passports.

A baby boy’s passport chip was altered to contain an image of Osama bin Laden, and the passport of a 36-year-old woman was changed to feature a picture of Hiba Darghmeh, a Palestinian suicide bomber who killed three people in 2003. The unlikely identities were chosen so that there could be no suggestion that either Mr van Beek or The Times was faking viable travel documents.

The passports do not match the printed ID numbers embedded into every document, which should raise some suspicions but that would seem to be easier to fake than the already hacked chip.

Did it work? Oh, I'm sure it did. Did it eliminate hospital baby mixups? No, because somebody somewhere along the line though it was a bad idea. We say bring this back! I don't want to raise some dirty stranger's baby for five years before I discover that he or she is not mine.

Wow there’s a word we haven’t written here in awhile; multi-touch. Say it with me class. The Miele concept is the kitchen of the future, complete with, wait for it . . . a multi-touch surface. Get the latest recipes and nutritional information as well as instructions and tips on cooking. There’s a built-in scale and the cooktop interfaces with your bluetooth enabled phone to set up grocery lists.

OMG but that’s not all. There’s also an integrated blender and a steamer. HELLO. I need this NOW. Designers Fiona McAndrew and Conor Fallon are only one step away from fulfilling my kitchen fantasies. I just need a Rosie the Robot to do it all for me and my life will be complete.

Designer: Fiona McAndrew & Conor Fallon

The interface uses capacitive multi point touch screen technology; Allowing for a truly intuitive experience , which responses only to human contact.

A built-in scale for preparation.

Through wireless bluetooth technology the interface can send a shopping list to a mobile phone. The interface can also be updated this way.

A sheet of wood can be slid into the tray exterior providing for another practical use.

For steaming small individual portions these containers fit inside a perforated metal sheet which slots into the tray, then in turn into the steamer. Also great for sanitizing baby bottles.

Most people want to flip the bird to their alarm clock, but this clock is for those who love the sound of birds. Or maybe you live in the city and don’t get to hear very many bird calls. For whatever reason, some of you may want to be woken up by the soothing sounds of birds. And that’s what this clock is all about.

The Singing Bird Alarm Clock wakes you each morning with your choice of bird call. You’ll think you are a baby chick in a nest for a few groggy seconds in the morning. It’s portable and runs on 3 AAA batteries. You can buy different bird call cards that go with the clock for $10.50 each if you get sick of the originals. You can even buy a frog call card, for some reason. Not for me thank you. I have birds that already wake me up with their yakking outside. But if you want to be one with nature, it costs $39.95.

Google recently set up some new Street Views near the Googleplex company headquarters in California. And Google employee Michael Weiss-Malik used the opportunity to re-propose to his girlfriend. That's why his sign says "Proposal 2.0" -- he had already given a traditional proposal and the woman said yes.

My original proposal was quiet and low-key. It was just some simple heart-felt words exchanged during a quiet night at home. And while Proposal 1.0 had plenty of sentiment, it was lacking in pizazz. So I did what any Silicon Valley geek would do: I decided to upgrade to "Proposal 2.0," a new improved online version. I proposed to Leslie from inside a Google Street View panorama.

Wow, Michael, that's probably the most romantic story I've ever heard. Well, minus the one about the guy that proposed with a handgun. I do like this whole Proposal 2.0 business though. I've even been inspired to do make one to my fiancée. Baby, if you're reading this:

Proposal 2.0 -- This effectively voids proposal 1.0

Woot, freedom!
