Okay, so maybe those all-in-one PCs have their positives, but seriously, who really looks forward to paying good money for something that's so impossible to upgrade? Tim Schellekens sure doesn't, and rather than biting the bullet, he chose to snap up one of VIA's EPIA motherboards, an old school 15-inch LCD and a bit of fiberglass. The four pages waiting for you in the read link detail the transformation, and while we personally wouldn't have gone to such extremes (buying two monitors to get one?) just to craft our own web surfing desktop, we definitely admire the dedication. Behold, i-EPIA.

[Thanks, Ewan]

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

A bit of topic. Now I don’t talk about gadget for today. But talk about another componen in this domain: Cutie. Cutie usually Defined as a Beautiful Cute Girls, and people say they are Cutie Girl. Just like Gadgets, Girls around the world who can be defined Cute is Japanese Girls. Enjoy these Cutie and Beautiful girls Picture. All picture are taken from FlickR.

This is Cute Girl doing Cosplay as Suzumiya Haruhi. Haruhi is really bossy, but she has a really Cutie face. That’s why many Otaku boys love Haruhi. Haruhi fans, you may also interested in This Haruhi Paper models.
This is also a picture of Cosplaying girls, although I don’t really know what cosplay this girl playing. However, this girl really represent the Gothic Lolita Cutie. The black eyeliner and dark lips don’t make her looks scary. She looks really cute in that way. Source

Now the last picture. If you look more closer, you may realize that this Super Cute Girl is same as the second picture. I don’t know this Girl is still in teen age or not. However, I can say this girl age is about 15-25. She doesn’t look old, isn’t she? Source

Now you have looked those girls pic? Do you think these girls are Cute or not? Give me some comments Thanks!

I am not very impressed with the lack of security that is used in the Credit Card RFID. With the advance in technology and the easy of use for online purchases I would have thought that any new technology that was layered onto the existing credit card system would have been so robust that a hacker would not give it a second look. When RFID empnanted credit cards become more popular I can see crooks setting up powerful directional antennas in busy hallways and grab thousands of numbers per day without the card holders having a clue of what was going on. As the hacker in the video mentions why not have the card store a bit stream of garbage that can only be decrypted when it has been sent back to the issuing bank.

A few reasons really. For a start eXpansys want you to buy one, but I was also interested in the retro looks of the device, and of course the 3gb “microdrive”.

3gb isn’t a great deal now with the iPhone, but then this isn’t anywhere near the cost of one. It’s was, until the Diamond, the only WM based device to have built in storage. It’s an interesting phone and is as quick as any of the devices being launched today.

The retro look comes from a mix of black and silver plastic, but feels very well built. The sides are filled with various shortcut hardware buttons, and although these make it look a bit business orientated, most are of some use.

Throughout it’s life, it has, perhaps oddly, been pushed as a consumer device (and in the marketing, you’d be forgiven for thinking the hard disk only accepts music files!). This seems a little strange to me, as its crying out to be used in enterprise. Its a true USB Stick/phone combo, and 3gb of storage, plus a decent well spec'ed phone for £70 seems good.

The i300 of course does beat the likes of Sony Walkman phones in terms of storage, but the teenage girl crowd are not going to want to carry around i300! Style wise then, it is in a niche market, but I do firmly believe it retains its use even now – especially with now stupidly low pricing - it even comes with a decent set of headphones and a headphone adapter for those wishing to use their own headphones.

i300 headphone adapter

As you might expect, music (and anything else) is easily synced to the device with a combination of Windows Media Player and ActiveSync, but unfortunately the built in speakers are pretty awful. As usual, and as most people do, using earphones improves the quality no end.

As well as the full scale hard disk, the i300 still supports external micro-sd cards, which can be hot swapped without removing the battery.

There's is sadly no way of upgrading the device from its rather old WM2003 Second Edition despite the fact that later builds of the i300 did include WM5.

The usual array of software is available on the device immediately – and Samsung have also added “Picsel viewer” which opens most Office documents.

The built in camera at 1.3meg is acceptable, but does struggle to perform at the levels expected these days. The camera button is on the right hand side of the phone, next to a button dedicated to the standard profile selection screen. This doubles up with a long press to activate flight mode. A third button applies the keylock.

On the right hand side, there is the volume rocker switch, the headphones port, and a voice control/voice recorder button.

The front of the phone is typical retro candybar looks. Screen at the top, buttons at the bottom, and the standard WM softkeys. The navigation ring is really useful though. First off its the usual 5-way direction pad, but the ring itself also spins, with a ridge to make it even easier to navigate through websites and other documents. It is also the method used to digitally zoom the camera.

I really do want to love this phone, and considering its age, its still amazingly useful and easy to use. It is big, and perhaps a bit too heavy. It just about gets away with it, because you do get something for the hassle – the hard disk. I do hope it can withstand a few heavy falls though!

The battery life is acceptable, although you will lose access to the hard disk when the battery drops to a certain level. This will at least in theory give you a little bit of extra time to get home and recharge! The package does include an extra battery that you can carry for the emergency situations.

Samsung i300 battery packs

Highlights

Nice retro look

3gb memory

High quality screen

Decent battery life

Lowlights

A little too heavy

WM2003 and seemingly no WM5 upgrade available

Conclusion

For all its minor niggles, I can’t help liking the i300, despite its age, and the older OS. As much as we prefer a good old-fashioned bird-killin' three blade wind turbine, apparently they cause a bit too much vibration and disturbance for regular home use. That's where the Energy Ball comes in, with its spherical shape that captures wind less obtrusively and yet more efficiently. At least that's what we're told, we're a bit short on details. The pixel drink coasters are nothing if not eye-catching, but they have another feature that makes them very, very cool. They can be cut to any shape that one pleases. In fact the coasters come in one massive sheet that has been folded into fifty segments which you can separate yourself. The pixels themselves are perforated in order to make it easy to shape your coasters into any piece of 8-bit artwork that you can imagine - and they supposedly resist condensation.

Leave it to the pioneers of multi-touch in the mobile space to apply for a patent on all future versions of multi-touch. Apple’s latest patent filing suggests that Cupertino is working to integrate more than just touch-based input modalities in to future versions of multi-touch.

The problem with the current multi-touch setup is that it’s tailored to touch-based mechanics alone. Multi-touch on the iPhone and iPhone 3G is goo for mechanical manipulation, but without complementary input modalities like voice or finger-recognition, the current multi-touch setup falls short of offering truly immersive user interaction.

Imagine trying to resize and rotate a picture while changing its color and inserting a bit of text. It wouldn’t make sense to resize and rotate the picture using your voice. There are size and rotation-degree parameters that are just more well-suited for manipulation through touch-based multi-touch technology - it’s just easier to pinch/stretch and rotate the picture with your finger than with voice commands. Likewise, it’s easier to use voice commands to change the color of the background picture or add a text string to the picture.

Apple proposes, in their latest patent application, that future multi-touch technologies will integrate almost all foreseeable input modalities to complement touch-based multi-touch. Mechanical manipulations could be assigned to touch-based commands, while voice commands are relegated to functions that require choosing an option from a list.

Futhermore, Apple envisions future multi-touch setups incorporating finger-recognition that would allow the user to assign different functions to each finger - which would allow for more complex commands to be issued. Gaze-vector tracking could allow your future laptop or mobile phone to recognize which menu you’d like to select and automatically drill down to the appropriate category. Then there’s the proposition of using finger-tracking and force-sensing technologies that would allow the user to affect different degrees of control depending on finger-pressure and position.

Combine all that with accelerometer support and some pixie dust and you’ve got the makings of a seriously immersed control environment. We can’t wait for a future filled with multi multi-touch and pixie dust!

The Napbook is a computer case with enough padding for it to function as a pillow, which makes it perfect for people who like to sleep on the commute or have a pretty mellow workplace like mine where napping at the desk is a daily occurrence that raises no eyebrows.

There are often times that I find myself in need of a salaried snooze. In such cases, my pillow of choice tends to be a rolled up hand towel on my desk - try it sometime it is awesome. The Napbook case, however, is a different kind of awesome , looks a whole lot more comfortable, a little bit stylish and has the secondary capability of being able to carry your laptop, cables and miscellaneous junk around.

At the moment this thing is only available in Iceland, I kid you not, but there are plans to take it to the rest of the world where you can be sure that it is going to be a hit.
The Palm Treo 800w apparently didn’t like recognizing certain USB devices, and had some problems charging a completely dead and drained battery. Both issues have been recognized by Palm and fixes are now available in the new Palm Treo 800w software update.

If your Palm Treo 800w is sitting dead on your desk with a completely drained battery, unable to start charging through the wall-charger, you’ll want to “trickle charge” the Palm Treo 800w battery by connecting it via USB cable to your computer. The USB port on your computer should start charging your Palm Treo 800w, and once the battery hits 25%, you’re good to start the software update.

Even better is news that the software update can be both downloaded and applied through your computer or simply applied as an OTA (over-the-air) update. You can find the software update download link here. To update your Palm Treo 800w over the air, simply point your 800w’s IE browser to palm.com/800wusbota and follow the onscreen instructions.

With this latest software update and our previous hack that should open up faster upload data speeds, your Palm Treo 800w should be humming along quite nicely.
