I'm a huge animal lover, so when I came across Dogpile, a search engine site that is trying to raise $1 million before 2009 to donate to animals in need, I wanted to get involved immediately. With the way the economy is right now, charities often suffer and people are more apt to give away pets due to financial woes. Similar to GoodSearch, which donates money to the charity of your choice, Dogpile will donate a portion of its search revenue to helping our furry friends.

And on Wednesday, Dogpile launched a new search engine aggregator site called Dogpile Search and Rescue that will donate money to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) whenever you conduct a search. Don't expect Google, but just know how much you're helping out, just by doing what you would naturally do on the net!

Just 99 days to go until TV watching as we know it evolves into a purely digital form.

The countdown began yesterday at the 100-day mark and all sorts of events took place. TV commercials reminding consumers about the deadline started. Stations began airing a countdown clock. Ads are covering 1,200 buses around the nation. And various cities, including the Los Angeles area, plan to conduct shut-off tests to help viewers determine if they’re ready.

For those just tuning in, on Feb. 17, 2009, the major TV networks will switch to digital broadcasts. That means that people who use an antenna to watch TV will likely get no more service after Feb. 17. The exceptions are if the TV is a digital TV, TV service comes from cable or another paid source or you bought one of those digital converter boxes (two $40 coupons are available at www.DTV2009.gov).

Digital converter boxes are now widely sold across the country, including online at stores like Amazon.com.

And don’t forget, the coupons expire 90 days after they are mailed. As of last Wednesday, 13.5 million coupons have been redeemed. But another 7.8 million coupons are active and waiting to be redeemed or expire.

There are still plenty of coupons available. According to the Department of Commerce, which is the U.S. agency that is handling the coupon distribution, 50.5 million coupons can be available. People just need to ask (Apply for a coupon at dtv2009.gov or call 1-888-DTV2009).

Fortunately, we only had to wait a few hours. AT&T has announced that the Fuze is now available at stores and online for $299.99 with a two-year contract and a mail-in rebate.

HTC FUZE FROM AT&T FUSES FUN AND FUNCTION WITH
THE ONE-TOUCH POWER OF TOUCHFLO 3D

Powerful New Smartphone Epitomizes Choice With Touch-Screen and Slider Keyboard, Access to Nation’s Fastest 3G Network and Many More Connectivity Options

DALLAS, Texas, and BELLEVUE, Wash., Nov. 11, 2008 — AT&T customers now have the best of both worlds. AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) and HTC Corp. (TAIEX: 2498; “HTC”) have announced the availability beginning today of the new smartphone HTC FUZETM. The HTC FUZE provides users with a familiar QWERTY keyboard paired with HTC’s intuitive, graphic-rich TouchFLO™ 3D touch-screen user interface for easy one-touch access to a range of fun and powerful features.

TouchFLO 3D is designed for one-hand operation using simple, gesture-based navigation, allowing customers to simply touch, hold and slide along the screen tabs. A quick slide on the home screen quickly activates the most used features such as e-mail, text messaging, music player and camera. This instinctive interface extends to the powerful Web browser. A useful “zoom in, zoom out” feature makes it especially fun and easy to access the Web via the included Opera browser, which provides for desktop-like Web page renderings and user interactions.

Powered by AT&T’s 3G network — the nation’s fastest — and Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, the HTC FUZE is a compact yet powerful communications tool with a smooth gloss black finish and a distinctive and unique faceted backplate. The HTC FUZE features a sharp, 262K color 2.8-inch (480 x 640) VGA touch screen for touch-sensitive navigation control, complete with three-dimensional animated transitions. For e-mail, messaging and other data input, the HTC FUZE also comes equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard, which was designed specifically for AT&T and slides out from the smartphone’s side.

Connectivity Options
Beyond AT&T’s robust 3G network, the HTC FUZE provides AT&T customers with a host of other connectivity options. When abroad, AT&T customers can use the HTC FUZE to make or receive a phone call in more than 200 countries and check e-mail, browse the Web or perform other data functions in more than 150 countries, including in more than 60 — such as Japan and South Korea — that have deployed 3G networks. In addition, the HTC FUZE boasts:

* Built-in aGPS — for use with AT&T Navigator powered by TeleNav and other location-based applications such as TeleNav TrackTM and Xora GPS TimeTrackTM.
* Wi-Fi® (802.11 b/g) — to connect with home or campus networks or access more than 17,000 AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots nationwide, including at thousands of participating Starbucks locations.
* Bluetooth® 2.0 with Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) — for simultaneous connection of up to six Bluetooth-enabled devices, including hands-free headsets, stereo headsets, car kits, network printers and other Bluetooth peripherals.
* AT&T Video ShareSM — the first service in the U.S. that allows users to share live video over wireless devices while participating in a voice call.
* Push To Talk (PTT) — via the nation’s largest PTT network.

“The HTC FUZE is a great illustration of AT&T’s commitment to innovation and choice,” said Michael Woodward, vice president, Smart Devices for AT&T’s wireless unit. “The HTC FUZE, with its array of connectivity features, provides our customers with the ability to choose the manner in which they communicate using the form factor they deem most appropriate at a given moment — all in a very attractive and sleek package. It’s a fantastic addition to AT&T’s industry-leading Windows Mobile smartphone portfolio.”

Jason Mackenzie, vice president of HTC America, said: “By combining the power of Windows Mobile 6.1 with HTC’s innovative TouchFLO 3D interface, the HTC FUZE ensures that your most important information — from mail to music to images — is never more than a touch away. The HTC FUZE’s range of cutting-edge mobile features, like a desktop-quality mobile browser, paired with AT&T’s lightning-quick 3G network makes it an unbeatable choice for consumers.”

AT&T also offers customers a variety of choices in the types of services available to them when using the HTC FUZE, both during work and after-hours.

Business Use
For business use, AT&T customers will be able to choose from several popular platforms to access their corporate e-mail. The robust Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional platform offers seamless integration with Microsoft Outlook information including e-mail, contacts, calendar and to-do lists. Additionally, Good Mobile Messaging and BlackBerry® ConnectTM compatibility will be offered later this year, while personal e-mail can easily be taken mobile using AT&T’s popular Xpress Mail service. They can access and edit e-mail attachments using mobile versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, OneNote and PowerPoint. Customers also can choose to tether the HTC FUZE to their notebook computer to wirelessly view e-mail or access the Web. A unique business card application allows users to quickly capture and save contact information with the built-in 3.2 megapixel camera.

In addition, the HTC FUZE supports scores of industry-specific applications as well as Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager (MDM), an enterprise-grade mobile device management solution that also provides security, mobile Virtual Private Network (VPN) and software distribution for Windows Mobile devices enabled for Windows Mobile 6.1.

For both business and personal use, the HTC FUZE features AT&T Video Share. Business customers, particularly those in such fields as architecture and engineering, can use Video Share to monitor progress on a job site or review the day’s work without having to drive from an office or other site to do so. When not working, users can share moments with family and friends while the moments are happening — everything from weddings or a baby’s first steps to a Little League at-bat or a clearance-sale find.

Personal Time
The HTC FUZE offers many additional uses during personal time. Users have access to AT&T Mobile Music services, an integrated, on-the-go music experience that delivers “your music, your way” by providing simple access to a robust collection of music content, including access to online subscription music content from eMusic®, XM Radio Mobile™ and more. Using the TouchFLO 3D touchscreen navigation, HTC FUZE customers can browse their music with easily accessible tabs sorted by playing lists, artists, albums, songs and genre views. Music as well as favorite contacts and photos can be arranged on-screen with the dynamic TouchFLO 3D interface.

For the visually oriented, CV (Cellular Video) from AT&T gives viewers access to thousands of video clips — news, sports, weather, entertainment, premium HBO MobileSM content and more — via streaming video. Those who prefer full-length streaming video programming can access MobiTV. Or they can use the HTC FUZE’s built-in camera to shoot their own video.

AT&T Video Share, AT&T Mobile Music services, CV, MobiTV and more than 90,000 additional choices are available through AT&T MEdia Mall directly from the HTC FUZE or online.

Backing the HTC FUZE is AT&T’s 3G BroadbandConnect network, which currently is available in more than 320 major metropolitan areas in the U.S. and, by year-end, AT&T expects to offer the service in nearly 350 leading U.S. markets. In addition to 3G connectivity, the HTC FUZE is also designed to connect seamlessly with AT&T’s nationwide2 EDGE network, which is available in more than 13,000 cities and towns and along some 40,000 miles of major highways.

Pricing and Availability
The HTC FUZE is available now for as low as $299.991 at AT&T retail stores nationwide, online at www.att.com, at select national retailers and through AT&T’s enterprise and small business sales organizations.
DOCOMO's future business direction is based on a new action plan, "DOCOMO's Change and Challenge to Achieve New Growth," which covers initiatives to be implemented between the current fiscal year 2008...

DOCOMO's future business direction is based on a new action plan, "DOCOMO's Change and Challenge to Achieve New Growth," which covers initiatives to be implemented between the current fiscal year 2008 ending March 31, 2009 and fiscal year 2012 ending March 31, 2013. Under the plan, DOCOMO aims to contribute to society's sustainable development and a safer, more secure environment for people to lead enriched, convenient lives.

1.Basic philosophy
After a period of rapid expansion, the Japanese mobile communications market has entered a mature phase. Now that total subscriptions exceed 100 million, it is difficult to expect further growth on a significant level unless breakthroughs are made. In addition, customers' values have diversified and their demands have become increasingly sophisticated.

Under such market circumstances, DOCOMO has implemented a thoroughly hands-on approach to serving its customers, working to deliver the best possible service, safety and security to each user. At the same time, the company has strived to exceed customer expectations by delivering on the pledges made in its New DOCOMO Commitments proclamation.

DOCOMO believes that the market has potential for significant growth if services that take advantage of unique mobile properties—such as real-time immediacy, personal authentication and locating capabilities—can be developed in conjunction with the evolution of networks and handsets. The increasing adoption of open-platform handsets and entry of new global players will produce new services that transcend conventional boundaries and thereby propel further advancements and diversification in the market. Perceiving this as an opportunity, DOCOMO intends to drive innovation in collaboration with a wide range of partners on a global scale, committing the company to taking on the challenge of creating new value by leveraging the virtually unlimited potential of mobile phones.

An overview of DOCOMO's future actions follows.

2.DOCOMO's Change
(1) New DOCOMO Commitments and review of operational structure
After DOCOMO's introduction of its New DOCOMO Commitments, the company, as first steps towards implementing the "Change and Challenge" action plan, changed its corporate branding and integrated its regional subsidiaries following a comprehensive review of operational structure.

(2) Promotion of customer-focused marketing
From the perspective of customer-focused marketing, the entire DOCOMO Group will join forces in all aspects of business based on a hands-on approach to serving customers. The aim will be to earn long-term customer loyalty by delivering the best possible service, safety and security to each customer.

(3) Steadfast implementation of actions for improved customer satisfaction
DOCOMO will perform a comprehensive review of all operations—from customer relations to handset and network development—to enhance customer satisfaction, aiming at being ranked No. 1 in customer satisfaction by FY2010.

3.DOCOMO's Challenge
As mobile services and networks evolve, mobile phones will assume the role of assisting customers' individual behavior, in addition to providing the means for communication, information access and support for daily activities. How it all began

Back in the 1980s, Siemens launched its first cordless phones for private households: the Megasets, which were based on the CT1 and CT1+ standards. These devices can no longer be used, since the frequencies expired in 1997. The successor standard DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telephony) was introduced in 1992, and 1993 saw the birth of the Gigaset family with the launch of the Siemens Gigaset 951. It was the first cordless phone based on the DECT standard, which offered digital voice quality, protection against eavesdropping and, for the first time, the ability to register more than one handset and conduct internal calls. The Siemens Gigaset 952 also allowed the connection of a fax or answering machine.

Nissan and the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) have jointly developed a neutron imaging system that has provided the world's first precise visualization of oil flow in an engine operating at high speed. Combining neutron radiography to visualize through lightweight metals with high-speed imaging technology to capture dynamic events, the imaging system gives researchers an unprecedented chance to study the behavior of lubricating oil as it circulates through an automobile engine or drive train.

Using its expertise in innovative atomic research, JAEA together with Nissan will conduct visualization test studies on engines to determine the causes of friction loss from the recorded behavior of internal lubricating oil flow. The goal of the study is to redesign engines for optimal oil circulation with reduced friction in order to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in vehicles.

Sony Ericsson is a name synonymous with cell phones, so it is no surprise to see them release yet another handset that falls under the Walkman category - the W705. What new things do the W705 Walkman phone offer? Well, the W705 comes feature packed with the latest technology and functions, ensuring you will be able to enjoy your favorite musical tracks no matter where you are in its optimal tunes, as long as there is some juice left in the W705’s battery, of course. Let us take a closer look at the Sony Ericsson W705’s features right after the jump to see if it warrants a purchase from you in case you are currently shopping for a phone.

The W750 Walkman might come in a smaller numerical denomination compared to the W980 Walkman handset, but it is similar where superior sound quality is concerned with the latter, which means you will probably find a “best audio experience” rating should TESTfactory in Germany conduct a trial with the W705. Other popular Walkman features found on the W705 include the music recognition application TrackID, SensMe, for matching your mood to the music and Shake control to change tracks with the flick of your hand.

Since music is not the only form of entertainment, the Sony Ericsson W705 also offers the PlayNow arena which provides a full range of mobile entertainment, ranging from unique themes and wallpapers, ring tones, a host of free content and DRM-free music tracks and TrackID charts from around the world. It comes encased in an exclusive metal finish, while the generous display makes it easy to convey the necessary information to the user. Other features include Wi-Fi connectivity, a 2.4″ display, automatic rotation from landscape to portrait and vice versa, Google Maps for Mobile to help you find your way around, Bluetooth support, an integrated FM radio, and a 3.2 megapixel camera.
