MP3 Players are nothing new, especially those non-video playing brands like the iPod nano and the Creative Zen Stone. It appears that Nextar is getting in on this midget MP3 action with the Nextar MA588, otherwise known as the Peanut.

It is called the Peanut for its shape, and it is available in both 1GB and 2GB capacity. It also has high speed 2.0 USB interface for fast file transfer, and it can provide 12 hours of continuous playback with one AAA battery.

The Nextar Peanut also has seven equalizer modes including normal, pop, rock, classical, jazz, bass, and soft. There are also associated play modes such as repeat one, repeat all, shuffle, intro, repeat folder, and random. The user support is available in seven different languages, and the entire device is only 2 inch long.

It sounds like Nextar wants this to arrive around Christmas, and they seem to market the Peanut as a stocking stuffer. I have to admit, that this device sounds like one of those “perfect gift” items.

The MA588 is available in five different colors including black, pink, red, blue, and silver. It is available at Staples, K-Mart, Bon Ton, Canadian Tire and other retailers. The price is about $19.99 for the 1GB version, and $29.99 for the 2GB.

Creative’s design team is really trying to get creative but this time they have gone overboard. Their Mozaic atleast made you believe it as a music player but with the newly revealed Zen Moo, it looks more of a toy than a gadget. Thankfully, limited to China, the Zen Moo is set to moove them with its funny looking cow faces.

It will come in two options – Zen Moo and Zen Moo Plus. The OLED laden Zen Moo Plus version has a 2GB memory, FM Tuner and loudspeakers while the classic Zen Moo is deprived of all of these except for the onboard memory. Music is controlled with the help of cow’s horns and nose. And lastly, a game also goes with Zen Moo Plus that allows the user to train and breed up his own cow.

Dell's Inspiron Mini 9 just went to the art gallery and came home with a new paint job courtesy of Tristan Eaton. As the first big shop to do this, Dell seeks to underscore its transformation into a PC design haus: Sony, for example, doesn't even have a Netbook out, yet.

Tristan Eaton designed his first toy -- for Fisher-Price -- at age18, and has since become a driving force in the world of “designer toys.” He was the head designer for the influential Kidrobot brand and designed some of its most influential “art toys,” including Dunny and Munny. He currently is the President and Creative Director of Thunderdog Studios, a New York-based designer toy brand and creative agency.
Eaton joins Mike Ming, Joseph Amedokpo, Bruce Mau and Siobhan Gunning as contemporary artists reinterpreting the PC for a new generation.

How long until print-on-demand laptops? Someone make it happen! Or something in green.

Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) on November 20 unveiled Hami, a package of free value-added services specifically designed for CHT 3G subscribers using iPhone 3G handsets. Hami will be launched alongside the iPhone 3G in December, according to CHT.

The name Hami derives from the Chinese for honeydew melon, continuing the fruity theme of the iPhone, and was chosen as it sounds like "happy me" in English, according to CHT's explanation. (This "creative" use of naming is not uncommon in the local market.) More interesting, the fact that CHT has demonstrated Hami in action this week despite announcing it had inked the deal with Apple to distribute the iPhone in Taiwan only last weekend, is evidence that the companies must have reached an agreement some time earlier.

Hami consists of 11 services including news, weather, stock market tracker etc., CHT indicated. CHT will set up an editing team responsible for producing audio/video and image content for Hami, the company noted.

Although CHT has not yet announced pricing for the iPhone 3G and related services, it is speculated the telco will subsidize the handset to cost NT$0 for an 8GB model and NT$2,990 (US$90) for a 16GB model along with a two-year contract, according to industry sources.

CHT currently offers the HTC Diamond at a subsidized cost of NT$2,990 alongside a NT$1,683 per month two-year 3G service contract. The company also announced recently a voice and 3G data tariff costing N$1,789 per month. As is typical for the Taiwan market, neither of these tariffs include any free call or data allowance, instead charges are deducted from the monthly subscription fee, before the company bills for any excess or ineligible charges (as defined by the contract).

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_h5hOmDEy1n4/SSa7KYBrwSI/AAAAAAABAOc/iA__KmbiJoI/s320/iphone.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5271106200806342946" />
Chunghwa Telecom will offer Hami, value-added services tailored for its iPhone 3G users

Has Creative finally failed to live up to its namesake, with the latest MP3 player from the Singaporean company being named "Moo"? Well, perhaps they're trying to tap into a much younger and less mature demographic. After all, the Creative Zen Moo comes in the form factor of a cow's face, and looks to feature a similar set of functions found in the Zen Stone, including a tiny OLED display, 2B of internal memory, 20 hour playback time and an integrated FM tuner. The Creative Zen Moo was specially designed in this manner to pay a tribute to the year of the cow in the Chinese zodiac calendar for 2009.

Here in the United States, some might say that we are in the middle of an economic free fall, while others might say that we are in the middle of a financial meltdown. Personally, I think they both might be right. On the bright side, many companies, itching to stay in business, are offering great products at bargain prices. Take this 19 inch LCD monitor from AOC for example. It offers a huge bang for only 159 bucks.

This widescreen monitor has a great form factor and nice features. Specifically, you get full PC/Windows and Mac compatibility, both a VGA Dsub and DVI Port, Digital Input DVI-D HDCP, a 10,000:1 (dynamic) Contrast Ratio, and a 5ms fast response time. All of this comes packaged in this sexy, glossy black finish. Did I mention it is only $159? That is a heck of a deal; nothing like watching your stocks free fall in high-resolution and widescreen!

I expect that AOC won't be alone this holiday season in selling great products for prices that will guarantee that things sell. With luck, we will all have a little money available to afford these nice things.

We've seen plenty of cheap plastic MP3 land-fillers in our day. But those usually originate from deep-down within the fetid bowels of some no-name manufacturing house in southeast Asia, not the once illustrious Creative. The Zen Moo (yes, Moo) appears to be be a Zen Stone with extra bits of plastic and paint added to achieve Cow. Like the Stone, you get a small OLED, 2GB of memory, 20 hours of playback, and FM tuner to the delight of kids across China (where the Zen Moo was announced) -- hey, it's never too early to destroy a child's hearing. Gift-wrapped product waifs holding the accompanying speaker accessory after the break.

Update: Seems the Zen Moo is a tribute to the 2009 Chinese New Year, year of the plastic cow.

[Via EpiZENTer, thanks Oscar M.]
Continue reading Creative gives up, introduces the Zen Moo

Creative gives up, introduces the Zen Moo originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 21 Nov 2008 04:39:00 EST. Just in time for the upcoming Year of the Ox, Creative has released its Zen Moo line of mp3 players and speakers in China. Based on the Zen Stone, you can get either the Zen Moo or the Zen Moo Plus. Both come with 2GB storage, support for MP3 and WMA, a 20 hour lithium battery and a built-in speaker. The Plus adds a translucent blue OLED display, FM radio reception, MIC voice recording and an alarm clock. Prices weren't available on the site, but I bet it wouldn't be too hard to find if you hoof it to China. If you don't own a pair of noise canceling headphones, then you need to rush to the store after you read this and immediately buy a pair. I cannot tell you how many times I have desperately needed to drown out the world in order to get something done. Noise canceling headphones are definitely the way to go. These new Hitachi Maxell HP-NC20.IPS headphones are the best I have seen to date. Not only do they provide the necessary noise killing, but they do it without any additional power.

These iPod specific HP-NC20.IPS plug into the iPod docking connecter and draw power from the actual unit - a great design by the way. Hitachi Maxell states that the headphones will reduce outside noise by at least 20dB. The obvious bonus is that you don't have to supply power, but the drawback is that they consume your iPod battery rapidly. Also, volume control is supplied by the headphones themselves, because the iPod volume control is locked-out when the dock connector is activated.

The HP-NC20.IPS will run about $80 and will be available later in December. Give them the once over, I have a feeling they are going to be a great set of headphones.

Have you seen one in your neighborhood? I’m guessing no, since this is actually a concept for a PSP campaign made by a fan. But how cool would it be to spot a transparent PSP with a Tie Fighter, or even Spiderman in the background. Hit the link for more pics. Sony needs to hire this guy at once.
