We’re closing in on AT&T’s launch window for the HTC Touch Pro, rebranded as the AT&T Fuze, and it seems that AT&T is dressing up their touchscreen darling with a nice, fat carrier logo. It was apparently too much to ask that AT&T stop short of defiling the beautifully clean face of the HTC Touch Pro with their own logo.

The AT&T Fuze has been spotted, as you see in these pictures, with the AT&T logo proudly sitting next to the earpiece. With the HTC logo sitting below the VGA touchscreen, the AT&T Fuze won’t be criticized for having a lack of logos. And, with AT&T’s customized TouchFLO 3D pages, there’s no mistaking that this HTC Touch Pro has been locked down by AT&T.

AT&T application page

AT&T wants everyone to know that the AT&T Fuze’s VGA touchscreen, WiFi, GPS, 3G data connectivity, and slide-out QWERTY keyboard most definitely a part of Big Blue’s Windows Mobile smartphone portfolio. Sure, it takes away from HTC’s clean reference design, but at least the carrier didn’t completely change the Touch Pro’s design aesthetic. And, with heavy carrier subsidies expected to make this hot little smartphone affordable to the masses, we’re sure AT&T customers won’t mind the AT&T logo.

Interestingly, the HTC Wiki shows the AT&T Fuze without any branding whatsoever. You can’t even see the HTC logo below the touchscreen.

Us? We’d prefer an unlocked HTC Touch Pro sans carrier branding…

T-Mobile sold right out of its original allotment of G1 pre-orders quick, fast and in a hurry, and even the second round has been claimed in a flash. What's it all mean? It means that someone at T-Mobile and Google are sitting in a fancy restaurant in France sipping on the good stuff, and it also means that 1.5 million G1s have already been reserved for eager early adopters. In addition to that, another couple of million are all set to take the retail scene by storm later this month. In other words, folks are genuinely stoked about the possibilities of Android, and scads of 'em have already committed to the OS (and HTC's design, by extension) before even having a chance to toy around with it in person. No pressure at all, Google.

[Via Pulse2]

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Can you hardly bear to be apart from your partner for more than half an hour? Do you make out in the library while sitting next to a Gizmodo writer, totally unaware that someday he'll grumpily complain about you in a post? Well, I have the perfect mp3 player for you and your equally annoying significant other. The Twinned MP3 Player concept is actually two mp3 players, capable of holding only one playlist each: the same one.

When combined, in that adorable spooning position, you can plug 'em into the computer to load your songs, but when separated, they can only play back the tunes you and your partner have chosen together. Just the one playlist. Forever. At least it's easier to throw away than a matching tattoo. It's definitely just a concept for now, with no mention of basics like how you control the thing, let alone price or release date. La Fonera fans, it's finally time to celebrate. Iteration 2.0, which is fittingly dubbed the Liberator, is at long last ready for shipment... to developers, at least. The La Fonera 2.0 box will certainly look familiar to owners of the first, with just 1,000 of these being prepped for consumers in France, Germany and Spain. The intention here is for devs to start toying around and "programming their own applications for other Foneros out there." More specifically, the creators are hoping that more USB functionality will be worked in so we'll eventually have Fonera WiFi boxes that play nice with USB hard drives, printers, scanners, webcams and all manners of cooling devices. It's available now (for a limited time, obviously) for €39.95 ($53) if you're up to the challenge. Oh, and if you design an application sweet enough for the Fonera 2.0, you'll be reimbursed the purchase price -- not bad, eh?

[Via WiFi Romania]

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

The new Asus R710 portable navigation device (PND) with PathFinder is a handy navigational gadget that delivers a whole new level of vehicle safety through the world’s first PathFinder HUD (Heads-Up Display) technology. It is also equipped with a large 5" touch screen display that is not only functional, but exudes a sleek, stylish look. The Asus R710 also boasts a large variety of features that enable a smoother, safer drive, including Bluetooth handsfree functions and a built-in light sensor.

Press Release after the jump

The Asus R710 also doubles as a portable communications and multimedia center that makes driving or rest stops more enjoyable. Users can listen to MP3s, watch videos, and browse through pictures. It also features a Micro SD memory card slot that accepts cards with capacities of up to 8 GB, providing users with more than ample storage space for hours of multimedia enjoyment.

Taipei, Taiwan, October 9, 2008 –Without a doubt, car safety is paramount when travelling. That is why ASUS, producer of high quality handhelds, has released the new ASUS R710 portable navigation device (PND) with PathFinder. This handy navigational gadget delivers a whole new level of vehicle safety through the world´s first PathFinder HUD (Heads-Up Display) technology. It is also equipped with a large 5" touchscreen display that is not only functional, but exudes a sleek, stylish look. The R710 also boasts a large variety of features that enable a smoother, safer drive, including Bluetooth handsfree functions and a built-in light sensor.

Enhanced Car Safety with PathFinder HUD Support
The R710´s most unique and innovative feature is the PathFinder HUD. This ability allows the R710 to project navigational instructions—such as directions, speed and so forth—onto the windshield in front of the driver. This serves to aid users in focusing on the roads ahead, removing the need to constantly interact with the device and thus distracting the driver. It typically takes about 1 to 2 seconds for the driver to change his field of vision from the front of the car to a regular PND, so if the driver was travelling at 100 km/h, this glance would have meant that the vehicle had already traversed a distance of 27 m. With the PathFinder HUD, drivers can fully concentrate on the road in front of them—hugely improving car safety.

Sleek Design with Intuitive 5" Touchscreen Interface
The R710´s sleek, streamlined design does without the unnecessary clutter of buttons, emphasizing a seamless, smooth look that provides simplicity and elegance. An additional boon of its design is that there are no corners for dirt to gather. The R710 is also highly functional, providing users with a convenient, intuitive and user-friendly interface that utilizes the large 5" touchscreen for easy control. Furthermore, the large screen space allows users to see more roads, lanes and points of interests (POI) on the screen, while the concise and colorful menu helps users navigate with ease. At only 13.5 mm slim and 200 g in weight, the R710 is light enough for easy portability, and with its elegant and sleek look, fits perfectly into any car interior.

Bluetooth Features for a Smoother Drive
With Bluetooth 2.0 handsfree calling support, the R710 provides users with a safe way to answer incoming calls—allowing them to concentrate more on their driving without the need to handle the device. It also features fast transfer speeds and better voice quality for a smoother communicating experience, as well as the ability to auto-pair with other devices—requiring users to only set up connections once before being able to automatically build up Bluetooth connections from then on. The R710 is also equipped with an embedded echo-cancellation chip for superior audio quality.

Safety First with Built-in Auto Light Sensor
The R710 is also equipped with a built-in auto light sensor that automatically optimizes the backlighting of the LCD panel. This safety feature not only saves power, it also lets users view navigational directions regardless of what time it is in the day and environmental lighting conditions—the display remains vivid even when driving in a tunnel, for instance. With this feature, users will get optimal lighting to view directions without straining their eyes or drawing too much attention from driving.

Versatile Entertainment Center
The R710 also doubles as a portable communications and multimedia center that makes driving or rest stops more enjoyable. Users can listen to MP3s, watch videos, and browse through pictures. It also features a Micro SD memory card slot that accepts cards with capacities of up to 8 GB, providing users with more than ample storage space for hours of multimedia enjoyment. No matter if the driver is remaining in the car or taking a rest in a café, the slim and portable R710—with its multimedia functions—is the perfect traveling companion.

It’s a design for a yo-yo that has a LI battery cell that gets charged when you play with it. Ingenious, isn’t it? Who would have ever thought of something like that?
