Finland-based Sesca Mobile Software Oy, a leading developer of customized software for the mobile telecommunications industry, has launched iDial Mobile Community for mobile phone users. Users can download and install a free, mobile-operator independent iDial Mobile application to their compatible mobile handsets from www.my.idial.fi website. Users who are registered to the website can create mobile communities and communicate within the community by using iDial Mobile application’s rich communications tools.

With iDial Mobile application community members can:

•share mobile handset’s calendar, presence and location information automatically
•use chat and poke functionalities
•place free VoIP calls over the Internet in 3G or WLAN networks
•engage in multiple simultaneous chat sessions
•build easy to use internet phonebooks with contacts’ calendar, presence and location details
”Sesca provides mobile software and development services for mobile phone operators and manufacturers and for enterprise customers. By giving iDial Mobile application to users for free, we hope to receive plenty of user experience, feedback and ideas for further development of the application. Our intention is to offer iDial Mobile Community solution with support services to enterprise customers”, says Juha Sumelahti, the Managing Director of Sesca Mobile Software Oy.

The iDial Mobile application enables users to share their availability, presence and location information automatically. The application is able to fetch calendar and profile information from the user’s mobile phone. The application shows if the user is in a meeting or if they are available, and the mode of their mobile phone (shut off, meeting or mute mode). iDial Mobile application also identifies automatically the nearest WLAN and GSM network and shares the location of a community member. Users can also write personal messages in a status field, an option used widely in web communities.

Members of the iDial Mobile Community can place free VoIP calls over the Internet in WLAN or GSM networks. They can also send and receive chat messages and engage in multiple simultaneous chat sessions. With a poke functionality users can send and receive vibrating poke alerts to mobile phones. The features of iDial Mobile application include automatic updates of new versions and diverse options for user settings.

The user manages different functionalities of the iDial Mobile application through a personal web page. Users can update the internet phonebook, which also shows contacts’ calendar, presence and location details; invite new members to the community; engage in a chat session with an other user’s mobile phone; and send poke messages to a mobile phone. The personal web page includes also real-time calendar, presence and location information of the user.

”Sesca iDial Mobile Community is a future showcase of rich communications tools and web communities built by integrating web 2.0 and mobile phone technology. To become truly popular, a web community has to offer multiple tools for seamless communication. We also believe that enterprises will also implement mobile communities in the near future”, says Andreas Paschinsky, the product manager of iDial Mobile Community.

The iDial Mobile application is currently available for Nokia mobile phones running on Symbian S60 3rd Edition operating system.

Sesca Group Oy

Finland-based Sesca Group delivers and integrates ICT and automation solutions and services for the telecommunication, energy production and process industries. 1.Try to contact flash game developer, and buy their games, insert the adsense code, publish the game. Or number 2, you can share your earning with games developers. It’s up to you. And no, I’m not interested yet in Adsense for games.

No, Google hasn’t released a new Google Maps update with Street View functionality for the Windows Mobile camp. With the new Street View functionality announced for the T-Mobile G1, iPhone/iPhone 3G, and the BlackBerry lineup of smartphones, Windows Mobile users are left out in the cold.

But, it doesn’t have to be that way.

Enterprising xda-developers member KDKobes has gotten the Java-based Google Maps 2.3.1 application for BlackBerry handsets working on his AT&T Tilt (HTC Kaiser), complete with Street View functionality. Unfortunately, location-data support and GPS integration aren’t working with this version of Google Maps running on Windows Mobile, but it’s definitely a start.

I finally got Google Maps 2.3.1 on my Tilt with the Street View function. As of right now it is not available on Windows Mobile devices through Google just Blackberry and some Java devices, but I managed to find it with this function in Java form and it is working on my Tilt. - KDKobes

Download and install KDKobes Google Maps Street View 2.3.1 here.

September 2008 came and went and along with the downturn in the economy and the increasingly agitated political campaigns, there were plenty of interesting news in the Gadget World that took their spotlight turn.

The top stories we covered included the upcoming HTC G1 Google phone, the latest drama from Apple's App store client base, and the InterBike conference in Las Vegas.

Once again, we calculated all the diggs, added all the Reddit points, and looked for the most commented stories with the most page views to come up with the list. If you read these stories before, we invite you to enjoy them once again. If you missed them, cuddle up to your tiny netbook and check them out over the weekend. As always, please send us your comments at our emails, or through Danny's hairstylist/life guru.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t stand using the touch pad on my laptop. One time I forgot my mouse, and I had to use it. I almost went crazy that day. The problem with using a traditional mouse is that we’ve been told that continued use will lead to repeated wrist syndrome.

Fortunately, people at the University of Washington (Go Huskies!) are developing a vocally controlled mouse, or a vocal joystick. It is designed for people with disabilities, and I’ve included a You Tube video demonstrating it for a patient with a spinal disorder, available after the jump.

So how does one operate the vocally controlled mouse? Saying “ahh” will cause the cursor to zip to the northeast corner of the computer screen, and saying “ohh” sends it to the southeast corner. For specific directions, other vowel sounds are needed.

It turns out the vocally controlled mouse has a very simple setup. It is software connected to a microphone that can recognize the vowel sounds needed for motion. The UW developers are also working on using this voice recognition technology on robotic arms.

No word if this technology will be developed for the casual computer user, whether handicapped or non-handicapped, but you can’t deny that this could change a lot of things.

As a Windows Mobile user, you might wish that Google would provide an updated version of Google Maps with the Street View functionality. Well, you can wait on that front now that Google is competing directly with Microsoft, I'm afraid that they will try to Push their own Android solution first and come back to Windows Mobile later. some would say that it's the behavior of a big, quasi-monopolistic company, but hey, it's the reality of business. So, KDKobes from xda-developers made the Blackberry Java-based Google Maps 2.3.1 app run on Windows Mobile (tested on AT&T Tilt/HTC Kaiser). The downside is that GPS/location won't work for now. KDKobes shared his work here.
New Versions of BlackBerry Java Development Environment and BlackBerry Smartphone Simulators Support Innovative Mobile Application Development

Waterloo, ON - Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) announced the availability of new developer tools for creating and testing innovative, mobile-savvy applications for the BlackBerry® Storm™, BlackBerry® Bold™ and BlackBerry® Pearl™ Flip smartphones.

The developer tools include new versions of the BlackBerry® Java® Development Environment (BlackBerry JDE) that enable the streamlined development of mobile applications, as well as desktop simulators for the BlackBerry Storm, BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Pearl Flip smartphones that accelerate mobile application testing. The new BlackBerry JDE versions and simulators are available as free downloads at www.blackberry.com/developers and will be showcased at the BlackBerry Developer Conference (www.blackberrydeveloperconference.com) on October 20-22, 2008 in Santa Clara, California.

BlackBerry JDE v4.7, available today in public beta, enables mobile application development for BlackBerry Device Software v4.7 which runs on the new BlackBerry Storm smartphone. It includes the ability to develop an application that works seamlessly on both touch-screen and keyboard based BlackBerry smartphones. New APIs available with BlackBerry JDE v4.7 that enable developers to take advantage of the new features of the BlackBerry Storm smartphone include:

•Touch-Screen Support – Allow applications with custom user interfaces to receive input from taps, slides and other gestures on a BlackBerry Storm smartphone.
•Orientation and Rotation Support – Enable an application to support portrait and landscape orientations and re-draw the screen when the BlackBerry Storm smartphone is rotated.
•Accelerometer Support – Enable 360 degree motion sensing for advanced gaming applications and other motion-sensitive applications.
•Virtual Keyboard Control – Control when a virtual keyboard is visible to the user within an application, and when the user can show or hide a keyboard within specified screens.
•Camera and Media Integration – Build camera and video recording capabilities into a custom application and add a "Send to" menu option that enables photos or recorded videos to be sent from within the custom application.
•Set Homescreen Background Image – Enable an application to set the background image on a BlackBerry smartphone’s home screen.
BlackBerry JDE v4.6, now generally available, enables mobile application development for BlackBerry Device Software v4.6 which currently runs on the BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Pearl Flip smartphones. The following APIs are introduced in BlackBerry JDE v4.6 and are also available with BlackBerry JDE v4.7:

•Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) – Create compelling interactive graphical interfaces, drawings and animation using vector-based 2D graphics.
•Location-Based Services (LBS) – Use the Locator API to add LBS capabilities to mobile applications.
•Multimedia Integration – Embed audio and video playback in a mobile application and enable the application to capture images using a BlackBerry smartphone’s camera.
•Customized Messages and Alerts – Create an integrated experience between a mobile application and a BlackBerry smartphone by displaying custom information directly in a message list or on the home screen. Application messages can appear in BlackBerry Messenger or other instant messaging applications. Alerts appear as indicator icons on the home screen banner and on the external LCD of a BlackBerry Pearl Flip smartphone.
•Multiple Calendar and Contact List Support – Enable a mobile application to access a secondary calendar and contact list databases for users that wish to connect their BlackBerry smartphone to both a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server installation at work and a BlackBerry® Unite!™ installation at home.
•Time Zone Enhancements – Enable mobile applications dependent on time zone information to access, display, retrieve and set time zone information.
•Décor Enhancements – Control visual properties of a user interface.
•SMS & MMS Listener – Set applications to automatically update content or alter the progress of a function based on preset criteria that can be triggered by SMS and MMS messages.
In addition to the new APIs, developers can also take advantage of new features for the development of browser-based mobile applications, including improved web page rendering with AJAX, JavaScript® 1.5, CSS 2.1, DOM L2 (including Core, HTML, Style, Events) and HTML 4.01 (including Forms, Maps, Tables, Frames, Objects), as well as support for downloading files via the browser.

Desktop simulators for the BlackBerry Storm, BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Pearl Flip smartphones accelerate mobile application development by enabling developers to easily test the end-to-end user experience and wireless network interactivity of their mobile applications.

"The latest versions of the BlackBerry Java Development Environment present developers with opportunities to create innovative, mobile-savvy applications that take advantage of the robust feature sets of the BlackBerry Storm, BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Pearl Flip smartphones," said Alan Brenner, Senior Vice President, BlackBerry platforms at Research In Motion. "Each new BlackBerry smartphone presents an opportunity for mobile developers to create new applications or extend their innovations with the latest advances in mobile technology and application development."

For more information:

BlackBerry JDE and Smartphone Simulator Downloads: www.blackberry.com/developers
BlackBerry® Storm™: www.blackberry.com/blackberrystorm
BlackBerry® Bold™: www.blackberry.com/blackberrybold
BlackBerry® Pearl™ Flip: www.blackberry.com/blackberrypearl
BlackBerry Developer Conference: www.blackberrydeveloperconference.com

About Research In Motion (RIM)
Research In Motion is a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of innovative wireless solutions for the worldwide mobile communications market.
Testing on Track to Bring eHSPA to Consumers by End of 2008

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - Marking the second anniversary of the opening of its Next G™ network, Telstra announced that its planned deployment of Enhanced HSPA (eHSPA) to the Next G™ wireless network is progressing on schedule, as connectivity testing between network infrastructure equipment and cellular device technology was successfully achieved. This milestone indicates that Australians using the Telstra network will be the first in the world to experience peak downlink speeds of 21Mbps by the end of the year.

Mike Wright, Executive Director Telstra Wireless, attended the world's first live demonstration of the eHSPA interoperability at Ericsson headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden.

“This is truly game-changing. Telstra has a proven history of investment in Australia's nation-wide, HSPA-enabled Next G™ network and this is our latest, very important step toward realising this technology,” Mr Wright said. “Practically speaking, our tests have shown that when combined with our planned rollout of Ethernet backhaul, this network will deliver truly high-speed connectivity on the move.”

Telstra's Next G™ wireless network, which was turned on October 6, 2006, is already the world's fastest national mobile broadband network, covering 99 per cent of the Australian population. eHSPA, also known as HSPA Evolved or HSPA+, is designed to enhance the mobile broadband user experience and enable a wide range of services. The interoperability test was performed on a wireless infrastructure network solution from Ericsson using Qualcomm's MDM8200™ product, the industry's first chipset solution to support eHSPA devices.

“The peak speeds and network efficiency enabled by this evolution will encourage the development of more innovative applications and, importantly, increase our network capacity to support the explosion we are experiencing in wireless internet use,” added Mr Wright.

Ulf Ewaldsson, Vice President and Head of Product Area Radio at Ericsson, said, “The demonstration is significant proof of the maturity of eHSPA technology. Ericsson is the market leader in introducing the latest HSPA network solutions in operator networks that give customers the best possible mobile broadband experience.”

“All the pieces are coming together to create a powerful eHSPA network that will help people connect to the things they care about on the Internet, whether it's for work or play,” said Alex Katouzian, vice president of product management, Qualcomm CDMA Technologies. “In addition to higher peak rates, people will enjoy shorter response times and a better overall experience when using their mobile devices on the eHSPA network.”

Note: Speeds represented are network peak downlink speeds. Actual customer download speeds will be less and will vary due to congestion, distance from the cell, local conditions, hardware, software and other factors.

About Telstra Corporation
Ltd Telstra is Australia's leading telecommunications and information services company, with one of the best known brands in the country.
When the economy screeches to a halt, advertising is the first to go for most companies. Google hopes to counter this negative impact by introducing technology that will see advertisements being included in online video games - after all, when money is tight, why not spend a little to entertain yourself at home without having to go out and blow a whole wad of green? This software by Google is known as Adsense for Games and is currently in beta testing, enabling video, image or text advertisements to be placed at strategic locations - namely the beginning, end or change of level in an online title. Advertisers will be charged using the cost-per-impression or cost-per-click model, where revenue will be shared (ratio is unknown) between Google and game developers/publishers.

When Ballmer dropped a few sprinkles of information about Vista's successor, he dubbed it "Windows Cloud," but said the real moniker would be unveiled at the Professional Developers Conference later this month in LA. That show's agenda was recently posted, and interestingly contained a number of sessions under the header "Windows Strata," leading many to believe that it's the true name of Redmond's next offering. That the section was quickly changed to "Windows 7" makes things all the more suspicious, but don't go cyber-squatting WindowsStrata.com just yet (oops, too late). Strata -- a term that can apply to the layers of the atmosphere -- might be more of a general classification for numerous cloud computing-related offerings destined for all manner of devices. But if so, why rename the sessions, and why the secrecy? And, most importantly, why are we so intrigued?

[Via CNET]

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
