Sony’s alphabet soup method of naming products continues with the pending launch of the XR1, W1, ZX1 and X1 series of LCD TVs with a total of 8 models.

The top of the line is the 55-inch KDL-55XR1. The 55XR1 has 1000000:1 contrast, Triluminos RGB LED backlighting for 122% NTSC in 1080p. Image massaging, er processing, is via Bravia Engine 2 Pro, Motionflow PRO 120Hz and DRC-MFv3, all working together to reduce noise, improve contrast, produce more & better colors, smooth motion and unconvert to 1080p where necessary. 750,000 Yen.

Sony sez the XR1 has “the highest picture quality in the history of Bravia” … remains 2b seen.

It's too early to even start talking about the next generation of iPhones. We're going to wait for next year's rumors about any potential iPhone 3 handset. The iPhone still needs a few changes so we should definitely get a newer version.

But in the mean time we found this picture wandering around the internet. Wouldn't you like such an iPhone successor? Sure it's just a picture and we're treating it accordingly, but such a concept phone would be a real hit.

Nothing much to it other than going on with its business of jailbreaking iPhones, with a few small improvements:

  • Beta installer app has been updated to beta

  • Now supports iPhone and iPod Touch firmware 2.0.2 5C1


Head over to iPhone Dev Team's blog or hit update if you already have an older version of the Pwnage Tool running. Keep in mind that this is for OSX only and for Windows, you could try the QuickPwn available from the same guys.

Some dedicated hackers have finally managed to get the PSP and Microsoft's Xbox 360 Chatpad typing. There are still a few kinks to smooth out, but the hard part seems over, with l0rdnic0 managing a tiny bit of soldiering using a PSP remote cable and some software from the Open Keyboard Project. It's all still pretty nerdy at the moment, and we're still miffed at that Logic 3 getting cancelled way back when, but we suppose this will have to do.

While we've been dealing with short-form ad fare in the States, China's gone all artsy on us, with Lenovo releasing a short film to promote its S9 / S10 netbook. We won't ruin the plot for you -- the dialogue is all in Chinese, so it's not like we could -- but suffice it to say that the Lenovo S10 and unrequited love play major roles.

That's $2,261.54 off its list price. New, not refurbished. Obviously, something wrong—or fishy—must be happening because, right now, you can buy a bunch of products with this discount. Giz reader Cliff, who gave us the heads up, actually bought the 52-inch Aquos and got a confirmation email from Amazon in which they say his order will arrive in mid-september. Update: One reader is giving a word of caution, so proceed with caution because this may be a scam.

They charged him exactly what the catalog says. Nevertheless, this must be a bug but, in any case and since they are not charging the original price, I guess it's worth trying.

The question is: if a mail order company is advertising and actually confirming the purchase at these prices, are they obligated to honor the advertised price and send the product? Somewhere in my mind, a couple of advertising law clauses I took while in college are saying "yes, they may have to do exactly that". But then again, I may have had a hangover back then and got the whole thing wrong.

Update: a reader has sent us a heads up about a customer review in Amazon.com that says that someone who bought the Texas Instruments calculator got his order switched in his account page for a CD. Cliff says that his Amazon account still lists the Sharp in his order. If this is the case, I don't really know how Amazon can keep such an allegedly shady store in their site. In any case, proceed with caution if you really want to try your luck.
