Sony’s alphabet soup method of naming products continues with the pending launch of the XR1, W1, ZX1 and X1 series of LCD TVs with a total of 8 models.

The top of the line is the 55-inch KDL-55XR1. The 55XR1 has 1000000:1 contrast, Triluminos RGB LED backlighting for 122% NTSC in 1080p. Image massaging, er processing, is via Bravia Engine 2 Pro, Motionflow PRO 120Hz and DRC-MFv3, all working together to reduce noise, improve contrast, produce more & better colors, smooth motion and unconvert to 1080p where necessary. 750,000 Yen.

Sony sez the XR1 has “the highest picture quality in the history of Bravia” … remains 2b seen.

Hello Kitty’s all over the place - her mug has been used in just about any and every device imaginable to date, and this time round she comes in something slightly different but no less attractive - the Hello Kitty Action DJ Speaker. Word from ThinkGeek below.

Hello Kitty in a DJ booth with a speaker in the base is a pretty cool juxtaposition of dance music and Kitty. She even bops her head back and forth with the music. Plug in your iPod or similar music playing device and observe the cuteness for yourself. If you’re really looking to give in and completely “cute out” we recommend the pink version. Hey, we won’t judge you… we’re already there ourselves.

She will set you back by $24.99 this time round.

Mention Electronic Arts (EA) and what comes into your mind? Well, most probably video games will be at the top of the list, as that’s all they do with their slick marketing machine and all. Most games from EA are extremely mainstream, so expect it to come in droves of the good, bad and ugly. This time round, they’re expanding their sights to include the iPhone and iPod touch platforms by releasing new titles. The games in question are :-

YAHTZEE Adventures

EA Mini Golf

Lemonade Tycoon

Mahjong

MONOPOLY: Here & Now The World Edition

SimCity

Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09

Need for Speed Undercover

The Sims 3

Sounds as thought EA’s going all out to help boost both Apple products’ portfolios as a gaming device. Lemonade Tycoon…now there’s a time-waster.

It's too early to even start talking about the next generation of iPhones. We're going to wait for next year's rumors about any potential iPhone 3 handset. The iPhone still needs a few changes so we should definitely get a newer version.

But in the mean time we found this picture wandering around the internet. Wouldn't you like such an iPhone successor? Sure it's just a picture and we're treating it accordingly, but such a concept phone would be a real hit.

If you are still stuck with a shackled iPhone 3G, you might want to know that the enterprising individuals of iPhone Dev Team have announced the availability of the new Pwnage Tool 2.0.3. Nothing much to it other than going on with its business of jailbreaking iPhones, with a few small improvements:

.de localization for German users

Beta installer app has been updated to beta

Head over to iPhone Dev Team's blog or hit update if you already have an older version of the Pwnage Tool running. Some dedicated hackers have finally managed to get the PSP and Microsoft's Xbox 360 Chatpad typing. There are still a few kinks to smooth out, but the hard part seems over, with l0rdnic0 managing a tiny bit of soldiering using a PSP remote cable and some software from the Open Keyboard Project. It's all still pretty nerdy at the moment, and we're still miffed at that Logic 3 getting cancelled way back when, but we suppose this will have to do.
Continue reading PSP and 360 Chatpad are a match hacked in heaven

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Seeing all those moustaches and cleavages up close is kind of disturbing:

And talking about minifigs, in case you missed it, Gizmodo and Lego are celebrating the Go Miniman Go Challenge video contest to mark the 30th anniversary of the Lego minifig. By sending your short video centered around Lego's most famous icon you will be able to win a lot of prizes, including two priceless Lego vintage sets. And if you are into photography, remember that Brothers Brick is running a photography contest too.

Talking about which, we got our second video entry two days ago. You can see a frame above. It is a hilarious 25-second short called titled Attack of the Second Amendment, which demonstrates that you can also do an amazing job in just a few seconds.

If you want to participate, check the contest rules here.

The image associated with this post is best viewed using a browser.Right now, one of the stores at Amazon.com—myOfficeSource—is selling a 52-inch Sharp Aquos 1080P HDTV for $38.45 (thirty-eight dollars and forty-five cents). That's $2,261.54 off its list price. New, not refurbished. Obviously, something wrong—or fishy—must be happening because, right now, you can buy a bunch of products with this discount. Giz reader Cliff, who gave us the heads up, actually bought the 52-inch Aquos and got a confirmation email from Amazon in which they say his order will arrive in mid-september. Update: One reader is giving a word of caution, so proceed with caution because this may be a scam.

They charged him exactly what the catalog says. Nevertheless, this must be a bug but, in any case and since they are not charging the original price, I guess it's worth trying.

The question is: if a mail order company is advertising and actually confirming the purchase at these prices, are they obligated to honor the advertised price and send the product? Somewhere in my mind, a couple of advertising law clauses I took while in college are saying "yes, they may have to do exactly that". But then again, I may have had a hangover back then and got the whole thing wrong.

Update: a reader has sent us a heads up about a customer review in Amazon.com that says that someone who bought the Texas Instruments calculator got his order switched in his account page for a CD. Cliff says that his Amazon account still lists the Sharp in his order. If this is the case, I don't really know how Amazon can keep such an allegedly shady store in their site. In any case, proceed with caution if you really want to try your luck.

[Amazon and Amazon]

For organizing your unorganized desk, you might want to give this “Butt Station” a try as it can hold some pens, Post Its, a roll of 3M tape, and of course, anything metal would stick on the butt.
