Here’s a funny video proving that Fortune Cookies are in fact, from America itself. It’s funny but maybe Fortune Cookies were invented by the Chinese Americans to lure more customers. Go to China, they don’t even know what a Fortune Cookie is.

But I can understand that, they have Chinese food in Korea that they don’t have in America, it’s called Korean-Chinese food. Fortune Cookies are definitely American-Chinese food, speaking of which, there’s all these non-authentic Chinese food chains popping up. (and yes, they taste horrible to an authentic Asian mouth.)

Clearly not. They are arguably more American (by way of Japan), judging by the way that people in China react to fortune cookies — with a mixture of confusion and amusement. As part of research for my book, The Fortune Cookie Chronicles, I went around China handing out fortune cookies to random people (my bellhop, people on the street, vendors) and recorded their reactions.

Often times, they would put the cookies in their mouth, and then be surprised when they found a piece of paper either in their mouth or in a cookie.

This has got to be, without a doubt, one of the coolest evaporative coolers that I have ever seen. It makes use of galvanized iron and sisal sack fabric and a water trough to keep camel milk cool.

How does it work? Find out after the jump.

The principal behind the system are quite simple really. The fabric hangs so that it is in contact with the water which then soaks into the fabric and trickles down the both sides of the corrugated iron. You can’t see the water in the picture; it encircles the top of the corrugated iron and is covered. Vents on either side of the cooler allow for continuous airflow, thus achieving a meaningful level of cooling.

If one had access to some solar panels and a low-power exhaust fan, they could give this system a little extra kick.
Check out this compeltely useless 2D pen that lets you spend a lot of time just making the thing. Of course, if you never succeed in making the 2D pen into a 3D one, you might have to take more time to re-assemble it until you get it right.

Our verdict?

Just go buy a regular pen but this DIY 2D pen is a cool concept. For traveling, you might be able to stick a piece of this 2-D pen for slimmer travel.

Innovative and unique, the Falter 2D pen makes you work for your ink. The “assembly kit” comes with a flat piece of iron that you fold into a 3-dimensional pen holder. The assembly kit includes a key to help you bend the metal, a ruler and instructions. Handmade in Italy.

After a long hard day at work, there is nothing quite like taking a relaxing bath back home. Our friends at Gearlog has taken their turn inside the Kohler Fountainhead VibrAcoustic Bath, so what's their conclusion about this wonder bath?

How was the experience overall? Way better than taking a bath in my apartment, for starters; my knees hit my chin, in that tub. And I liked it much more than a jacuzzi, which is usually too hot and too noisy for me. The music was soothing, and the vibrating water was really pleasant. I came in suffering from serious jet-lag, and left feeling much refreshed. If I had an extra (approximately, not including installation) $9,000 to spend and a much bigger bathroom, I'd go for one. And if you do... invite me over? I'll bring the wine!

Sounds like a thumbs up from every perspective except for the price!

Believe it or not, there are quite a few pieces of once cutting edge space technology that have been left to rot. For example: there is a Russian Buran space shuttle lying abandoned in the Arabian desert, a NASA Jet Propulsion Lab sitting in a dusty lot, and the infamous launch pad 34 where the three astronauts aboard Apollo 1 died in a fire that broke out during a test exercise. The folks at OObject have put together a list of these relics along with 9 others that you may find surprising.
A PhD student in Australia has found a cheap way to make solar cells with household parts. If this process works as well as thought-of, we might have solar cells popping up everywhere with DIYers who make their own solar cells.

An Australian PhD student has found a cheap way to make solar cells with nail polish, a pizza oven and an ink jet printer. 23-year-old Nicole Kuepper’s invention, named iJET, doesn’t require the pricey clean rooms and high-temperature ovens of traditional solar panel manufacturing plants, thus dramatically lowering the cost of solar and paving the road for introducing the technology to third-world countries.

Pucker up, jet-setters -- South Korea's own KAON Media has a new PMP on the way, and for whatever reason, we've found ourselves strangely attracted to what the KM35 has going on here. The "Anywhere TV and Internet" device runs on Windows CE (and handles fresh-out-of-cinema films very well) and features a 3.5-inch 320 x 240 resolution display, 4GB or 8GB NAND flash drive, WiFi, an SD expansion slot, optional FM tuner and your choice of DVB-T/H, ISDB-T or T-DMB TV tuners. Early estimates peg battery life at around 2.5-hours when watching live TV, though there's no word yet on pricing or worldwide availability.

[Thanks, J. Unfortunately, it seems like the only page that would explain how iJET works is down right now, but Kuepper said it would probably take five years to commercialize the technology and it'll help people in less developed nations to “read at night, keep informed about the world through radio and television and refrigerate life-saving vaccines” without all those nasty CO2 emissions.
