A Japanese designer named Mac Funamizu is designing a camera that we have maybe seen on movies. The way this new concept works is very simple. All you have to do is make that L-shapped hand frame and mark your target. The camera is put in a pair of sunglasses, and what you see on the picture above is what the user is seeing through the sunglasses. Then you take your picture with a wink. That is a literal wink by the way, as in you shut your left eye, and the picture is taken in your literal hand frame. It is yet unknown how this technology works. Funamizu plans to take this project a step further by implementing technology which would show you information about the subject you choose to take a picture of. The date when this camera system is supposed to hit the market is also unknown and can be only speculated. Some cool stuff here though.

Some day mobile phones will have projectors built-in, but until then 3M has a perfect projector for someone looking for a very portable unit.

The projector is called the 3M MPro110 and is one of the tiniest projectors ever made. It measures in at a mere 115mm x 50mm x 22mm (L x W x H) and weighs 152g. Despite the small size, the projector can throw an image of 5-inches to 50-inches and offers a resolution of 640 x 480.

The projector uses LCOS technology and energy efficient LED backlighting. The efficiency of the projector allows the battery to last for 60 minutes of use. 3M doesn’t specify if the battery power is from internal rechargeable batteries or from normal AA or AAA batteries. The projector will be available in December in Hong Kong for HK $3,380 (roughly $400 USD).

So much for Wednesday - the big announcement from Nokia World has dropped today instead, and it’s the N97 - a touchscreen slider with all the slanty goodness of the TyTN II due to hit store shelves in the first half of 2009 for EUR 550. We had heard rumours of a touchscreen N-series coming down the pipes, and it turns out they were right! Here are the N97’s specifications:

Social networking is apparently a big part of this handset, as it will make good use of GPS to integrate into services like Ovi and Friend View, although it’s really being marketed as a miniaturized laptop more than anything else. There’s still a fairly distinct line between UMPC and smartphone that the E-series Communicator straddles a little better than the N97 here, but we’ll let that slide. The N97 is also sporting a lot of draggable home screen widgets, a look reminiscent of Android and the TouchWiz UI. An S60 widget development platform has been in the works for awhile now, so you can expect third parties will be jumping on this one real soon. It looks like a great step to improving the smoothness of the Symbian experience and should make a solid addition to the N series. Pretty cool, huh? Who wants one?

If this thing were coming from any source other than the legendary Eldar Murtazin of mobile-review, we'd go ahead and assume this was a knockoff nabbed off eBay for a few bucks -- but amazingly, we think it's the real deal. The dead-on-arrival burgundy slider with gold accents looks like it could've been part of a reinvigorated l'Amour series (or something along those lines), clearly putting styling at or near the top of its priorities -- but it also steals the 6260 slide's totally capable guts, which means it features a 5-megapixel camera, tri-band 3G, and a 480 x 320 display. If they had to choose between this and the 6260, the right model came out on top -- but we gotta admit, it's so far outside Nokia's styling comfort zone that we find it tolerable in a really sick, twisted way.

[Via Daily Mobile]

Canceled 5-megapixel Nokia slider almost looks like a fake originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 01 Dec 2008 09:55:00 EST.
Check out this variation of the USB Crunching Dog flash drive, known as the M.U.S.C.L.E. Men USB flash drive instead. These pink wrestlers (boy, they don't get out in the sun too much eh) won't do anything more than keep you entertained with their crunching antics, hence the detailed six-pack on each abdomen. Would you fork out $34.13 for each of these, or would you only pick one up if a future version (at the same price, of course) has some form of storage capacity within?

The memories! These fleshy pink rubber men, featuring unforgettable names like Muscle Man, Mr. Blocky and Mr. Tea (teacup for a head, duh!), were a staple of my youth. Too bad those fond memories were quickly sullied by the obscene humping end of these USB dongles. Why the Japanese took something as sacred as Kinniukman and turned him into something like this, I'll never know. All I can say is "only in Japan," and then order ten for my desktop.
