We have seen our share of high tech home theaters, but one home takes the crown. This 40000 square foot home has several rooms that feature the latest in video and audio technology. The best room in the house is the twelve seats, three levels home theater. This theater uses a Digital Projection projector to display onto the huge 133 inch HDTV format screen, but unfortunately the model name was not released. The theater is able to play both standard and Blu-ray DVDs through the DVDO video processor. The theater also has a 7.2 RBH Signature Series Reference speaker system. The room is beautifully decorated with blue lighting as well as theater style wall lamps. The ceiling is able to display a fiber optic night sky with the push of a button. Some of the other high tech rooms include a game room with a tv for each player, a dance lounge room, two swimming pools with both pool side and underwater speakers, and his and her bathrooms with HDTVs behind the mirrors. The beauty of this house is that every room is controlled by the Creston home control system. This system not only allows the parents to monitor what is being watched in each room, but also controls the security system that keeps the house and the family safe.

We've seen a review of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, and several videos of the device in action. What we haven't seen, however, is a video review... until now. Over at MobileBurn they've posted a series of four review videos of the touchscreen handset, and though it starts out a bit shaky -- the stylus is "not very good" and the build doesn't feel very "solid" -- the reviewer changes his tune by the end of the opus, and his opinion seems like it's evolved to a resounding "not bad." Hit the read link, grab a bucket of popcorn and consider yourself in for the night if you want to watch the full review.

How will Giz readers stack up?

CR found that, unsurprisingly, the number of folks hitting the stores is higher this year despite the economy's current position in the proverbial shitter—26% versus 21% in 2007. And of that 26%, electronics remain the main target, although much more so this year than last, with 85% heading to the gadget aisles over 70% previously. What's hot with CR's poll respondents? Gaming systems (those Xbox 360 price cuts seem like they're working out pretty well), which 46% of BF shoppers have their eye on first (compared to a much-lower 29% last year. iPods and other MP3 players come in a close second at 44% of folks planning on buying, up from 33%.

Still, I must throw in my two cents here: if you're able to wake up at the crack of dawn to stand in the cold waiting for some electronics deals with hundreds of other bleary-eyed souls, you're simply not doing Thanksgiving with the gluttony and excess it deserves. So save the shopping for later in the day at the computer, in your underpants, with a nice hot mug of the previous night's mulled wine helping you start the day (er, afternoon). That, friends, is a post-Thanksgiving Friday well-spent. [Consumer Reports]

The Rupublic of Korea's troops are stepping into winter fashion in a big way -- with all new threads and a sweet-ass rifle.

The new new battle uniforms would provide protection against nuclear, biological, and chemical attacks, and would feature automatic temperature control. A new protective vest is also planned. In addition to keeping the lead out, the helmet will be prewired for minicam video transmission, GPS navigation, and assorted networking gear

And the gun?

The double-barreled K-11 assault rifle lets the shooter fire either NATO 5.56- or 20-millimeter grenades, all off the same trigger. Day and night aiming is accomplished with a thermal target seeker and laser that calculates distance automatically--a true point-and-shoot.

Oh man, WANT! I just question how legitimate this new gear is seeing how the picture looks suspiciously like someone Xeroxed the cover of an old sci-fi novel.

Hit the jump for a 5:00 video about the new rifle. Pretty sweet drop-test footage starting at 4:15.

If you find it difficult sometimes to get to sleep at night (insomnia), here’s a good excuse to make use of your belove it iPhone while in bed. aSleep is an application designed to generate soothing sounds to relax the person desiring sleep and to drown out any other sounds that might disturb your sleep. It has a timer function for controlling how long the sounds should last and by default the timer is set to 15 hours. The volume of sound produced by aSleep on the iPhone’s speaker is quite good and there is a huge range of sounds to choose from. Of course, this won’t work for the iPod Touch, as there isn’t an external speaker.

Here’s a video demo…

So, if aSleep sounds like something that could interest you, you might be happy to know that it’s currently available for download via iTunes App Store for just 59p, which isn’t too bad if you’re sleep deprived!

OK so this might not be breaking news but it is news never the less. Samsung & Verizon have announced 2 new phones to be released at the beginning of December to compete in the Christmas market sales.

The first of these devices is the new Samsung Renown clamshell phone. A quad-band GSM phone which supports the CDMA 1x EVDO 800/1900MHz network.

Samsung Renown

The Renown features a 2.3 inch colour internal display and a 96 × 96 external display. With just a 2 Megapixel camera and its horrific colour I really cant see this climb right to the top of the sales charts. The good news is that it will carry a microSD card slot which now seems to be the industry standard card type (did you hear that Sony Ericsson?).

Samsung Renown

None of this next bit actually makes any sense to me given that I'm Scottish and have never used the Verizon Network but The Renown is said to support Verizon’s VZ Navigator service as well as V CAST Music and V CAST Video services which I'm sure means something good to the guys across the pond

Samsung Renown

The Samsung Renown will be available from Verizon for $179.99 with a 2-year contract and after a $50 mail-in rebate.

Next on the list is the the far better looking Samsung Saga smartphone that features a full QWERTY keyboard . The Saga features a 2.55-inch 320 × 320 LCD touchscreen display, quad-band GSM/GPRS, WiFi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, MicroSD support and again a 2 Megapixel camera. The difference with this camera is the fact that it features Night Shot (not sure if this is any way similar to Sony Night shot).

Samsung Saga

Verizon’s Samsung Saga runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional OS and comes with Opera mobile browser. The Saga measures 2.44-inch x 4.88-inch x .53-inch and weighs 4.59 ounces.

Due for release on the 1st of December for for $199.99 with a new two-year customer agreement after a $70 mail-in rebate.

Last but not least is the "I've just appeared on the FCC website" Samsung U440 or the Cleo. The Cleo will arrive from Verizon Wireless in the near future, just like the 2 above. Sporting a QWERTY keyboard, a considerably lower than normal 1.3 megapixel camera, A2DP stereo Bluetooth and up to 8GB of storage space this phone has also been hit with the Ugly Stick but the main question is will the QWERTY and 8GB internal memory be enough to sell this phone? I don't think so but I am quite often proven wrong.

Samsung Cleo

So 3 very new mobiles and to be 100% honest, not one of them offers a great consumer package. Come on Samsung, we know you can do better than this surely?

Posted by: John

Post Tags: Samsung Renown,Samsung Saga,Samsung Cleo,verizon,fcc filing,windows mobile,smartphone news,tracyandmatt.co.uk

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

A collaboration between brothers Matt and Justin Kleiner, the Protist is a music, art and design hybrid based out of Santa Barbara. Their latest project is a series of paintings that are meant to correspond with a soundtrack of original compositions. Images take traditional Japanese archetypes and couple them with more contemporary graphics and word fragments. Songs are brooding electronic soundscapes that take cues from electronic acts like Modeselektor and more recent Radiohead, a band who's song "Reckoner" they remix for the project.

The project's conceptual underpinnings use nature to illustrate different cycles, like life and death, or night and day. Following the same theme, the music tends to vacillate between lighter and darker moods.

You can view paintings and listen to the corresponding music on the Protist's website. Music, the clothing and other merchandise (also of their design) is available as well.

It will only open with a voice command! Once the proper sound waves of your voice are heard, the door will open automatically. If someone tries and fails, the alarm will sound. Of course, someone will just record your voice and can probably get in that way. It’s only $24.99 and takes three AA batteries.
