My friend Matt just got a Canon 5D mkII and shot us this video from his balcony in the Eurolands. The file was about 450MB for around 90 seconds of shooting. It's a very, very dark shot, but that's sort of the point; it was almost pitch dark outside on his balcony and he still was picking up a lot of light. (I think it's kind of pretty, actually, especially when the train rolls by.)

Here's Matt's tech description:

This is a test shot from my balcony with a 5d mkII. it's pitch dark outside - correct exposure for the bright areas of the frame is something around a second, f:1.8 for iso 400. the lens is the 28 1.8, i'd assume it's shooting wide open and at 3200 iso. the camera is handheld. the card is a sandisk extreme iii, which seemed to work just fine. i tried with an old ultra, and it buffered out after about 5 seconds.

Can't wait to see what it looks like with some daytime light — and what Matt, one amazing photographer, does with it as a plain ol' DSLR.

Yes, you got a plan to go with your iPhone that you use to call and text people, but there’s nothing like a backup system that will let you text for free in case you suddenly need it. This iPhone App called SMS Touch can be downloaded for US$5 from the App Store.

SMS Touch also lets you compose messages in landscape mode aside from sending messages out for free. The app supposedly sends an email through an SMS Gateway; the email arrives at the recipient’s phone as a plain text message. Unfortunately, according to source, the message won’t list your name as the sender and the “From:” box is filled out with binary numbers. Nevertheless, getting free text when you really need it for a one-time fee is not so bad, so it could be worth your while.

This year, online sales haven’t been doing so well. So, retailers are really hoping for a lot of Cyber Monday action. According to the National Retail Federation’s Shop.org, which coined the ‘Cyber Monday’ term, 84.6 million consumers plan to shop online from home or at work today, up from 72 million in 2007, says a Reuters news story.
