Yahoo might not have a CEO at this point in time, but that doesn't mean the company is running around like a headless chicken. The latest news involves Yahoo's mobile search feature/service being made available on a range of T-Mobile cell phones in the near future. Do you think we could possibly see Yahoo's OneSearch make an appearance on the Android-powered G1? We doubt so, as there would clearly be a conflict of interest here, but it is an interesting thought nonetheless. Word has it that Yahoo wants the OneSearch button to be pre-loaded on new models so that users won't have a hard time accessing it the moment they get their hands on the phone.

While USB 3.0 was revealed to the world quite a while back, here we are with the official specifications. It has a 4.8Gbps rate which translates to a data transfer rate of approximately 600MB/s - that's just uber! Imagine transferring a 25GB file in just 70 seconds - something unthinkable of today. Unfortunately for us, old USB cables won't be able to hit such speeds as you'll probably need to revamp your entire USB device collection. Fret not though - USB 3.0 devices will most likely roll out sometime in 2010, so there's no point in holding off USB devices till then.

No matter how loud the wail of the ambulance siren is, there are still folks who seem immune to that tune as they plod along in the fast lane without giving way to a speeding ambulance. Perhaps that will change with the installation of the low frequency tone siren known as the Howler in ambulances nationwide. At extremely low frequencies, this will enable motorists to feel the Howler-equipped ambulance's arrival no matter how loud their stereos might be at that point in time. It will take around $400 to equip an ambulance with the Howler, but that's pretty much loose change compared to the $14,000 to $16,000 average required to repair an ambulance involved in a crash.

DARPA's been running a blood pharming program for quite awhile now, but it's gotten a real kick start this week with the announcement of a partnership with Cleveland-based biotech company Arteriocyte. Arteriocyte, it seems, has developed a Nanofiber Based System, or NANEX, a technology that enables the production of red blood cells without a donor. The two companies hope research will eventually lead to an "in theatre" blood-making machine for the military. So, if there's no donor, where do the progenitor cells come from? Well, that's a little hazy at this point, though Arteriocyte developed the NANEX using "blood of the umbilical cord" (stem cells), but we don't know what will fuel the final product. Personally, we hope they can squeak out a way to do it using the less controversial "blood of the dragon."

[Via CNet]
DARPA teams up with Arteriocyte to create ominous-sounding blood pharming machine for the military originally appeared on Engadget on Sat, 15 Nov 2008 03:31:00 EST.
T-Mobile wants to enhance its portfolio by introducing the 8 megapixel totin' Samsung Pixon, although it will be renamed to the T929 Leica instead. Well, at least that is what whispers along the grapevine point to, but could prove to be fact in the end. How else are we to find out other than play the patient waiting game? This move by T-Mobile could help them recoup some of their hard-earned cash which was spent investing on its 3G network rollout, so offering an 8 megapixel camera phone ain't too shabby for starters.

You may be in luck come January 2009.

Rumor has it that the iPhone 3G will be heading to Costco Wholesale Stores come Q1 of 2009. The analyst group Global Equities Research has noted that not only will the device be available at Costco, but it will sell at a lower price of $149.99. Now doesn’t this open up a can of worms?

I’m sure most of us had a sneaky suspicion that the iPhone 3G would see a significant price drop on the cusp of the holiday season shopping frenzy. On top of that, new lower prices for the existing models would open up the door for a new 32GB or HD model to swoop in at the existing 16GB price point.

Take the rumor for what it’s worth, as Global Equities Research hasn’t named any sources for their information. Interesting that this news comes out on the heels of Orange announcing they will sell the iPhone 3G for €99 for the holidays.

What does Apple have up their sleeve… Hmmm? Price drops for the holidays me thinks!

Word on the street has it that the iPhone 3G might get another $50 discount off the current $199 price point, which makes the iPhone in the US all the more affordable, although it certainly cannot compare to the iPhone 3G in Europe that currently retails for a mere 99 Euros, courtesy of Orange. Guess this rumor, should it be true, will help boost Costco's bottom line next year as the $149 iPhone 3G will be available there then. Does this mean the iPhone 3G will take an even more commanding lead in the US cell phone market?

They weren’t all that great, but they did provide a strange sort of instant gratification. Sadly, Polaroid is dead. But it keeps coming back in other forms. You might remember Zink, that company whose technology prints digital photos on the spot without ink.

Well, they’re back, this time with strange bedfellows. They’ve been rolling around in the sheets with toy-maker Tomy to make the xiao TIP-521, a digital camera with a printer built in. The xiao has a five megapixel resolution, so you may want to wait a bit. The point is they are on it people. Polaroid lives on.
