Tis the season of Nokia madness, when it gets a ton of devices out there for purchase - nope, hang on, that’s all the time!

Anyhoo, just a quick round-up of “prices and devices” on the Nokia UK site right now - check out some keenly priced devices, plus one very interesting pre-order…..

First out of the gate is the E71 - the seriously good-looking emailer device that is going to bring the pressure to the Blackberry Bold. This device is much smaller than it looks, and is retailing online for the princely sum of £330. I’d have one in a hearbeat - ba-dump - oh look, I’ve just clicked on buy on the website!

Moving along swiftly, there are a number of devices that are now established in the marketplace, and hence don’t have such a premium pricetag attached to them any longer. I’d draw your attention to the former top-dog, the N95-8Gb, now retailing at £400. This is one seriously good handset, and to my mind in Top 5 of all-time devices.

But what about that hot pre-order? Well, that would of course be Nokia’s all-singing, all-data-dancing N96. On the UK website at least, it is coming in at an unashamed premium, but certainly not a price that would blow your mind…. how does £535 find you? Could you tolerate that in order to own a device that has universally been praised since pretty much it’s conception?

Part of my point here is to highlight what appears to be Nokia’s very keen pricing in the UK, but also I would imagine, on their other regional sites - it might worth an online trip to your local site to see what goodies they have for purchase. For me, I am getting just a bit excited thinking about the N96……mmmmhhhhhh……16GB of memory, just for me!

The Palm Centro has helped staved off corporate takeovers from the handheld device manufacturer so far, but it hasn’t done enough to turn the company around despite selling millions upon millions of handsets. Taking a leaf out of Nintendo’s book, Palm has decided to release the Centro not with updated hardware, but with new colors instead. This time around, you will be able to choose from either pink or green colors, whichever you fancy. The new pink is more welcome than the older pink, since this one features a much darker shade that is more pleasing to the eye, although the green does take some getting used to - an acquired taste, so to speak. Both models will come with the recently released Sprint update accompanied by pre-installed versions of Google Maps. Word on the street has it that these handsets will hit the streets later next month.

Those of you in the UK are in for a treat (I guess). PNY and Sony teamed up to bring you something that I actually think is a good idea. A 2GB USB drive preloaded with a copy of the movie Ghostbusters. The Ghostbusters USB drive will be available at Argos stores in the UK for £29.99. I kind of think that is cool but I’m guessing that a 2 gig thumbdrive would at least half used up by a full length movie (if they add in copy protection etc). Maybe not?

Why do I think its a good idea? Well as of right now, if I download a movie from an online source, I am pretty limited on where I can watch it. If those movies could be tied to a USB drive, instead of a computer (or software), it may be a little better when those times come when you want to watch it from other pieces of electronics.

Anyway, if you are interested in purchasing the Ghostbusters "pre-loaded" USB drive and in the UK check out Argos

The Nokia N96 has been highly anticipated as the Nokia N95 successor and new heir to the Nseries throne. With that sexy, glossy-black finish, under-lit keys, mobile TV, and fantastic optics, the Nokia N96 is the new king-of-the-ring when it comes to Espoos Nseries lineup.

We’ve already seen the Nokia N96 from all angles and subjective perspectives. For some, the addition of mobile TV and a refreshed design aesthetic isn’t enough to justify the jump from the Nokia N95. For others, the sleek new look combined with the improved build-quality and more precise sliding mechanism is enough to upgrade to the Nokia N96.

But, that doesn’t mean we can’t stand to see more Nokia N96 reviews. AllAboutSymbian has posted an “first impressions” review of the Nokia N96 that lauds the newly-minted Nseries flagship as having good build quality (as I mentioned from my hands-on time with the N96), solid slide mechanism, and affinity for fingerprints.

The camera shutter button was noted as being a bit stiff, although that’s more likely a personal perspective. I found the pre-production unit to have a well-balanced shutter button.

And, as expected from the Carl Zeiss optics used in the Nokia N96’s camera, the picture quality is top-notch (as you can see from the sample picture to the left).

Head on over to AllAboutSymbian for the down-low.

I realize that most people have their garage door openers conveniently clipped to their visor, but I don’t see why we can’t just open our doors with a cellular phone or other MID (Mobile Internet Device).

This is one of the uses for the Schlage LiNK, a system of locks and deadbolts that can be unlocked using a cellular phone or Internet connection. All a user needs to do is enter in a 4-digit access code on their device, and wireless Z-Wave technology unlocks and opens the pre-programmed doors.

These access codes can be changed for specific days or times of the day, and it will automatically send the user emails or text messages whenever the codes are used. That way, if someone managed to bypass your access code, you will be informed of it.

Of course, the chances of anyone getting by your personal PIN number are pretty slim as the Schlage locks have the Secure Socket Layer, a security system used by most banks.

If you are the type that wants this type of security connected to your wireless device, you should be able to purchase the Schlage LiNK Starter Kit for about $299. You should know that the cost doesn’t stop there, as there is a $12.99 monthly fee.

It's not exactly a shocker, but it looks like Garmin's promised free live traffic information for life on its new nüvi 7x5 and 2x5 navigators isn't exactly the completely free ride some may have hoped it was, with it instead supported by, you guessed it, ads. According to PC Magazine, its review unit arrived pre-loaded with ads for BP, Walgreens, and Wells Fargo, which always appear at the bottom of the screen when you access the traffic menu, and occasionally pop up on the map view screen (but not when you're in motion). Naturally, when you tap on the ad you get a POI search of all the nearby locations and, no, you can't disable the ads. Not exactly an unreasonable trade-off, but Garmin could be a bit more up-front about it.

Lets face it iTunes could be so much more… hopefully iTunes 8 will go a long way (or a little knowing Apple) to correcting iTunes short falls. On the 9th of September Apple hosts its ‘Lets Rock’ event which is the official launch of aplles new iTunes 8 software, but some leaked details will give you a taster of what you can expect to find.

The biggest talking point is the new ‘Genius’ element which is capable of creating playlists from songs in your library that iTunes reckons would sound good together.

Of course Apple need their sales, so unfortunately a Genius sidebar will also sit alongside the interface hassleing you to download other tunes it thinks would work great with your playlist from the Apple store.

Elsewhere a new grid view allows you to browse around more visually, which looks a little like something Microsoft uses on the Zune and can replace Apple’s cover-flow aesthetic. You can also download HD-quality TV shows from the store directly and there’s a ’stunning’ new music visualiser to enjoy.

Verizon has yet to push out a true competitor to the iconic iPhone and iPhone 3G from big-dog competitor AT&T. The CDMA carrier has been expected to be bringing the BlackBerry 9530 Storm, formerly known as the BlackBerry Thunder, on board as their iPhone-fighting touchscreen handset. And, as RIM’s first touchscreen BlackBerry handset, Verizon has something of an exclusive here.

The latest rumblings from the rumor mill has the BlackBerry Thunder getting “technical acceptance” (TA) from Verizon - a process which takes 3-4 weeks. And, combined with the fact that the BlackBerry Storm has been delayed 3-4 weeks, we’re looking at a fairly solid rumored launch window in mid-November. The new launch window misses previous speculation that Verizon could launch the BlackBerry Storm 9530 in mid-October, but what’s a month or so between <strike>friends</strike> BlackBerry fans?

Verizon reportedly still has to work out the sluggish bugs and polish the UI up a bit before releasing it to the general public. If past BlackBerry enthusiasm repeats itself for the first-ever touchscreen BlackBerry, we’ll be seeing droves of BlackBerry fans lining up to grab their own BlackBerry Storm.

If you’ve been patiently waiting for the Skooba Design Checkpoint Friendly laptop bags to appear, your wait will soon be over. We’ve just received word that Skooba Design is now taking pre-orders for their Checkthrough (checkpoint-friendly) bags, and the bags are scheduled to begin shipping in about 8 weeks. Here’s the latest…

Based on the e-mails, phone calls, retailer and consumer order requests we’ve received since the original announcement of the product–now well into the thousands–we will have our hands… and our sewing machines… full to make sure we produce enough to keep everyone happy through the holidays and beyond. So, we have set up the pre-order option as the best way to insure that those who want these bags can “lock them in.” We also are offering some incentives for early action (info on the order form).
