Instead of using their $300 million on customer services/refunds for wrongly-installed Vistas on brand new laptops/PCs, Microsoft is trying to copy Apple Genius strategy by having 155 Microsoft Vista experts roam around your local BestBuy and CircuitCity.

As someone who had a horrible experience at BestBuy trying to return a digital camera, (which BestBuy didn’t let me return it for whatever reason so I now have TWO identical digital cameras) I will be officially boycotting BestBuy and CircuitCity stores for the duration of this Microsoft stint.

Even without Microsoft, I have a hard time getting around the retail stores without sales people annoying me with their “Can I help you find anything” questions.

Call me bitter but Microsoft deserves it after I bought a new HP desktop PC last year and of course it came with a Vista that wouldn’t work with any of my printers, mouse, pretty much all my USB devices.

Now, Microsoft should be paying me at least $25/hour during the time I formatted my PC using a special Linux Boot CD (because harddrive gets junked when you install Vista, you need to partition it and get rid of the root Vista thingee) and installed a fresh copy of Windows XP, which took me a total of 5 hours.

Now that’s $25 x 5 = $125 + Cost of Vista = about $500.

There, what Microsoft needed to do in order to survive and turn people like me into fans is about $500 for all my troubles and $500 for every PC/laptop I buy that come with Vista.

My next operating system will definitely hang around Ubuntu or another Linux system, but definitely Microsoft needs to realize for the good of human kind that their new Vista sucks so much even with their new $300 million marketing.  (Marketing...not product features or upgrades that Microsoft is spending money on)

Here’s to Bill Gates or whoever is in charge of Microsoft:

“Please stop re-selling consumers an outdated, poorly designed operating system.  No matter what marketing tatics you employ, I will do my best to let everyone else know that Vista has not changed (Yes, your mojave marketing had a reverse effect on me) , it’s the worst operating system I have ever used in my life.  We are smarter than you think.  Just having a new Vista  Period. (and there’s goes my middle finger too.)”

Check out this Wall-E robot clone built of Lego! Though this robot is made of Lego and won’t look or sound as genuine as the one you’ve seen in the movie, it’s always incredible (I think) to see people bring Lego to life simply by putting abit of brain power and engineering skill into the good old plastic blocks…

Youtube user Bazmarc, a 41-year old from Canada who works in IT is a serious Lego fan who enjoys Lego Robotics building and programming. Just very recently he posted a series of videos showing his totally cool implementation of the WALL-E robot constructed completely from stock Lego NXT Mindstorms robot system parts. Not only is the robot realistic, it also features some very emotional and touching eye movements.

Bazmarc’s robot creation does use some third party components, like Mindsensors and HiTechnic - both Lego certified though!

According to some comments on his videos, the robot uses…

“1 NXT with rechargable pack, 3 Servo Motors, 4 PF motors, 2 IR receiver, 1 UltraSonic sensor, 1 sound sensor, 1 IRlink, 1 NXTservo module and 1 mini RC servo, 10 AA batteries and Lego from the Bulldozer #8275 and other parts from various technic sets.”

I am not very impressed with the lack of security that is used in the Credit Card RFID. With the advance in technology and the easy of use for online purchases I would have thought that any new technology that was layered onto the existing credit card system would have been so robust that a hacker would not give it a second look. When RFID empnanted credit cards become more popular I can see crooks setting up powerful directional antennas in busy hallways and grab thousands of numbers per day without the card holders having a clue of what was going on.  As the hacker in the video mentions why not have the card store a bit stream of garbage that can only be decrypted when it has been sent back to the issuing bank.

Contrary to its name, the Air Hog Zero Gravity Micro R/C car does not defy gravity. However, the car does turn the world on its side by driving not only on floors, but on your walls too. Just flip the switch, place the car on the wall, and you can drive up, down, left and right all without falling off. You can even drive on the underside of a table if the surface is smooth enough.

So how does this little car work it’s magic? The vehicles contain a special system that works like a mini vacuum cleaner. A powerful fan creates suction to hold the car to the wall, and a special skirt around the perimeter of the car keeps the vacuum seal.

The cars come in a variety of colors and measure about 4.75″ long. They run on rechargeable batteries and should run for about 10 minutes on a single charge. Keep in mind that the remote control is infrared, so it will only work when you have line-of-sight access to the car.

One of the most annoying things about installing a killer home theater or multi-room audio system, is snaking wires through the walls and ceilings to install the speakers where you want them. We've seen a few dedicated systems that include wireless speaker hookups, but until now there wasn't an easy wireless solution that you could use with any speaker.

The new WEM-1 from legendary speaker company JBL transmits two channel audio up to 70 feet over a 2.4 GHz wireless connection, allowing you to send music to a second room, or to connect the rear speakers in a surround rig without snaking wires. The transmitter has RCA, mini-jack and speaker level inputs, while the receiver has a 50 watt per channel amplifier, and a subwoofer output. A remote lets you control the volume, or switch to a local input like an iPod in the second room.
