File this under “rumors,” but according to a report from InfoWorld, T-Mobile USA is in talks with Yahoo to include their OneSearch product pre-installed on some of the T-Mobile handsets. And while this is far from being confirmed at this stage, it would make sense for T-Mobile not to put all eggs in a single basket called “Google.”

Sure, the T-Mobile G1 was and still is a hit for the Deutsche Telekom owned mobile operator, but it’s a fact that Yahoo’s mobile offering is at the moment much superior to Google’s. That being said, I don’t see a reason why wouldn’t T-Mobile want to offer the Internet giant’s OneSearch mobile app bundled with some of the future devices. It’s easy to use and it integrates a bunch of Yahoo’s services.

Naturally, we’re looking at the ad-supported model here, and we’re sure T-Mobile will get a piece of any advertising revenues generated through the use of OneSearch. We’ll have to wait and see where this goes…

Not that it wasn't official already or anything, but nothing demonstrates dedication to a product like an exclusive home on the web. Yep, LG has just launched a standalone microsite for the altogether sexy Prada II, and while you already know about the specs -- HSDPA, WiFi, 5-megapixel camera, 3-inch 400 x 240 pixel capacitive multi-touch display and quad-band GSM connectivity -- you probably weren't aware of the matching Prada Link Bluetooth watch. As you'd expect, the timepiece syncs with your Prada II and shows your incoming calls / texts, and we'll go out on a limb and presume that it tells time, too. Sadly, the tidbits we're most interested in (a release date and pricing) aren't clearly available on the site, but we'll be refreshing like madmen hoping for that to change.

[Via UnwiredView]
LG launches Prada II teaser site, matching Bluetooth watch originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 18 Nov 2008 18:14:00 EST. Basically American Express has this "holiday e-tail" site where they sell gadgets at crazily bargainous prices, in a kind of "get one if you're lucky enough to click" manner. Amex cardholders simply turn up at the website on the right day, jab on the "I WANT IT!" button and hope you're the right side of the demand/supply curve. There are also "featured products" on sale at lower, but not crazily lower, prices until they sell out.

The kind of teaser info American Express has put out includes the following deals:

Google G1 phone: $125
Premco Sharp Acquos 42-inch HDTV: $700
ESPN Ultimate Remote: $149
Rymax Flip digital camera: $90
Sharp Ultrathin 65-inch HDTV: $5000

So there's gadgets of all sorts, but if you're in the market for a Mercedes GLK 350, then there're three going for $0, seriously, on December 18th. Try your luck between December 1st and December 18th at the official website. [Amex My WishList]

I’ve just shown a couple below that I believe have real impact, but for the full five you’ll need to go to MobiAD News. For more detailed info, I recommend you visit Berg Insight’s corporate website here.

2 - Smartphones
Smartphones will boost traditional Internet advertising revenues. A significant proportion of mobile advertising revenues will actually derive from mobile Internet users accessing conventional web sites. Internet advertisers are going to need to adapt by creating campaigns that work with multiple devices and display sizes.

3 - Idle-screen advertising
Idle-screen will eventually become the largest mobile advertising channel. Virtually all consumers carry a mobile handset wherever they go and check out things on the display many times per day. Embedded advertising on the idle-screen and in the user interface would provide an unmatched exposure.

For my money, Smartphones have the best in-built mechanisms to deliver Mobile Ads well - co-incidentally they also have the most ‘active’ idle screens, within which Ads can be embedded. As a combo, it’s quite persuasive, and I could envisage ’sponsored’ devices coming with Ad channels pre-installed. Let’s see how this one pans out.

Again, for the full five Mobile Advertising predictions, you’ll need to go to MobiAD News.
What's black and white and now red in Japan? Why Dell's Inspiron Mini 9 of course -- who reads newspapers? Starting tomorrow, Dell's little netbook will finally be available in red to match the initial teaser shots that had the entire laptop world looking Dell's way back in May. Pink too, to offset the decidedly more staid, obsidian black and alpine white versions available elsewhere. Japan also nabbed an Inspiron Mini 9 Platinum Package that features a relative biggie 32GB SSD for a tax inclusive price of ¥54,980 or about $565. No word on a rest of world release date for these Mini 9 updates but we expect them go Stateside in time for Cindy-Lou Who. Mini 9 in pink after the break.

RIM's just launched an online "User Guide" for the BlackBerry 9530, AKA Storm. Covering everything from basic, operational how-tos to more advanced processes such as syncing, the site is a so-called "interactive" instruction manual. We've already spied a PDF of the manual, played around with the phone in our hands-on, and seen numerous pictures from all ends of the Earth. At this point we're getting a bit impatient for the thing to actually appear and are less than impressed with this newest teaser. Let's just cut to the chase already, can we?
RIM unleashes BlackBerry Storm online user guide, still no release date in sight originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 11 Nov 2008 00:10:00 EST.
The RED folks sure do like to tease out their upcoming products -- and occasionally even lead folks astray -- and it looks like they're really pulling out all the stops for their forthcoming Scarlet and Epic announcements. That includes a slightly perplexing teaser image released a few days ago and now this new, even more confounding image, again posted on the Reduser forums by RED founder Jim Jannard himself. While speculation abounds, no one seems to have quite pegged down exactly what it is, or if it actually is something at all, so feel free to take your own shot at it in comments.

Threes made no secret...

We’ve been staring at 3’s teaser page for weeks, but now the beans have been spilt! We know all about the network’s new Facebook phone, due to be unveiled officially next Thursday.

Three’s made no secret that its new handset will allow access to the social networking site, and its common knowledge that it has hooked up with INQ Mobile to manufacture its own-brand mobiles.

INQ’s chief executive Frank Meehan even let slip to Reuters that its newest handset, dubbed the INQ1, will have a price tag lower than $200 (or £125) and offer “tight integration [the phone’s] contacts book with popular social sites like Facebook.”

Oh, did we mention Meehan used to be Director and General Manager of 3G Handsets and Products for the Hutchison Whampoa Group, 3’s parent company? Yep, that’s right - he’s the very man who picked the company’s phone portfolio, and now he’s making them too.

So it’s fair to assume the INQ1 is 3’s much talked-about Facebook phone.

What isn’t clear is how the “tight integration” of Facebook’s services will work. We assume it means you’ll see your friends’ status updates along with their names. That’s not too tricky to accomplish, since Facebook already lets users log in using their mobile number instead of a user name.

We’ve also heard 3’s Skypephone service will be included too, so the phone can make free calls using a data connection.

What’s more, INQ promises a full web browser using the same Webkit engine as the iPhone and T-Mobile G1, the ability to use the phone as a USB dongle for laptops and other software niceties, like an eBay tracker and Windows Live Messenger.

What’ll be intriguing, however, is the price tag 3 applies to its new handset. We’ve heard reports that it’ll be on sale for less than £100. Interested? Give us a shout in the comments section below.

source

RED CEO Jim Jannard is either an incredible visionary or prone to serial exaggeration. Just yesterday, he deigned to visit the RED forums, promising that "[RED is] doing things we never thought possible... When we do post, it will be very obvious why we needed a bit more time to 'spill the beans'." As a teaser, he decided to spill two of those beans early, in the form of vague, zoomed-in renders of RED's new HIV-curing, hunger-ending, climate-stabilizing übercamera.

Owners of any number of popular DSLRs will notice some familiar controls in these renders, but what does that mean? It seems obvious that Jannard's lovable breathlessness is for his new RED DSLR (or DSMC, I guess), and that his enthusiasm hasn't been diminished in light of the stunning video performance of Canon's 5D DSLR. RED certainly has a track record of innovation, but could Canon have beat them to the DSLR HD video punch? This is just mean. With 10 days to go before Red goes official with its Scarlet and Epic announcement, we get this image: a teaser for those of us already teased. Sure, it doesn't look like much now (don't bother looking at the EXIF: nothing), but it's enough to prompt RED Digital Cinema's CEO, Jim Jannard to write that "the most aggressive speculation will not come close to what we will announce Nov. 13th." Careful Jim, our expectations are already pretty high.
RED teases some more in preparation for November 13th originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 03 Nov 2008 07:21:00 EST.
