It’s good to see some sort of launch-related news that doesn’t include the word “delay.” Following on confirmation that the long-awaited Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 would be delayed even more than it already is, Boy Genius Report has it on a solid source that the BlackBerry Bold 9000 will finally be seeing the light of day in the US on October 2.

As expected, AT&T will be making BlackBerry Bold-dreams come true for business-suited BlackBerry fans itching to get their hands on Waterloo’s latest and greatest push-emailing smartphone. The “source” is apparently planted high up in AT&T’s command chain, and says that the No. 1 US wireless carrier is aiming for to get the BlackBerry Bold in stores by October 2.

The near-term launch could signal AT&T’s intent to have their 3G network shored up in time to accomodate the influx of BlackBerry Bold customers that will undoubtedly add more strain on a network that is speculated to be buckling under the pressure of iPhone 3G data requests.

We’ll keep an eye on this one, stay tuned.

Hey all. Labor day's always signaled the true end of summer to me, and this year, it marks many changes and breaks for the Giz team. Jason's taking a last minute vacation to some tropical destination, and I spent the day finding a ski cabin and getting ready for the upcoming snowboarding season. Jesús is leaving Berlin and getting back home before moving; Mark and Wilson are settling into new homes in new cities; Adam is in Cape Cod; John Herrman is ending his internship and returning to Scotland in a few days; CES prep starts to warm up. We rest so that we can brace ourselves and resist the rush of new gadgets the companies want to shove down our gullets. So, we're taking the holiday weekend to post a little less and relax a little more. If you end up missing us more than you can bear, here's a link to our most recent top stories and features. Otherwise, we'll see you on Tuesday.

GO!View is Sony's attempt to grab a slice of the ever increasing on demand TV pie. Powered by BSkyB In theory the Service works in perfect harmony with your PSP downloading shows on your PC using the GO!View subscription service and then simply transferring them to your PSP to enjoy when and wherever you wish, So is this the case or are Sony simply full of hot air?

Well the first thing that is perfectly true is that GO!View is a subscription service meaning it will cost you however with prices starting at just £5 a month it is not bad value for money. So what do you get for your money?

Similar to Sky digital television the GO!View service is split into various Packs and access to each varies depending on which subscription you choose, the three packs you have to choose from are:

Entertainment

Sport

Comedy

Each of the categories offer a large number of shows and clips which can all be downloaded and transferred to your PSP for you to enjoy. On top of these packs the service offers the rental of a large selection of the latest & classic movies and TV shows which you will be able to rent however this is at an extra charge and is not included in your subscription fee and costs between £1.50-£3.50 for any one show or movie.

Once you have made your choice with regards to package and subscription downloading shows and clips could not be easier simply browse the library select the item you wish to download click and then just a further click to transfer the item to your PSP (note, items cannot be played on your PC) Of course as most PSP owners will understand I was worried about my PSP's 2 GB memory stick duo would quickly become useless when downloading full episodes however this was not the case with a 1 hour show using around the 330-340mb mark allowing for a good few shows to be stored on your PSP at any one time.

So overall is GO!View worth investing in? In a nutshell yes I would say it is as it allows great shows and clips to be downloaded and transferred to your PSP easily and more importantly quickly! This service is perfect if you are going on holiday on a long journey as if your PSP is equipped with a decent sized memory card you can load it up with your favourite shows to watch at your leisure. I do have some problems with the service however I do feel the pay per view service is great for movies but for TV shows is a little steep considering you are already shedding out £5+ for your chosen pack(s) also I think it would be a lot more beneficial if the service could be used wirelessly on your PSP and allowed for downloads straight to the PSP without the need for a PC but these aside it a great service and will certainly help Sony get a feel for this sort of product as the release of there Play TV is just around the corner which if you have a PS3 as well as a PSP from what I have seen so far Play TV will be a another excellent product for watching shows on the move.

So how do you get GO!View? Well simply visit http://www.goview.tv/vod/page/promoPage.do download the GO!View application and sign yourself up and another bonus is a months FREE Trial is currently available so you can get a good feel for service before committing.

* We'll be kicking off a great Go!View competition shortly so be sure to come back soon! *

Posted by: Nick

Post Tags: [Sony,PSP,Go!View,Sky,media player,tracyandmatt.co.uk]

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

No Additional Audio Gear, Wires Needed
With the Logitech Squeezebox Boom all-in-one network music player, you can listen to your digital music in the kitchen, the bedroom or any other room in your home – without needing to attach external speakers. Just plug the new Logitech network music player into a power outlet – there are no additional wires to connect. Then, using your existing home network, you can listen to the music you love from the personal collection on your computer, your favorite Internet radio stations, and subscription services such as Rhapsody®, Last.FM, Slacker, Pandora® and Sirius® – even when the computer is off.

Adding Squeezebox Boom to your network is simple. The new Logitech player will automatically detect the available networks. Once you select your network, simply enter your password – for your convenience, Squeezebox Boom automatically remembers it for future use.

For different music in another room of your home, you can easily expand your Squeezebox network music system. Simply add additional Squeezebox Boom players in any room you like or, if you already have an existing stereo system, add another player from the Squeezebox family to your network music setup, including the Logitech® Squeezebox™ Duet network music system.

Listen to Thousands of Internet Radio Stations on High-Performance Speakers
Upon registering your Squeezebox Boom network music player, you can access thousands of radio stations and millions of songs, aggregated by SqueezeNetwork™ – Logitech’s free, online service – without having to remember Internet addresses or passwords.

The old saying goes that “everything is bigger in Texas.” Well, that couldn’t be more true for the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium which promises to be the largest stadium ever built, with the largest support arches ever constructed, and doors that open on each end that could fit a DC-10 lengthwise and still have room for a forward pass over the middle.

At a glance, the specs of this new stadium shows that team owner Jerry Jones is “sparing no expense.” The arch foundations will have 25-foot-high abutments and be anchored up to 70 feet underground. The Empire State Building could fit underneath them with plenty of room to spare. In addition, there will be an amazing 86-foot-high glass exterior where the clear glass paneling will be pelted with ceramic dots that will create a blue and gray translucence as the sun moves through the sky. The Stadium will sport the largest high definition LED displays in the world which will span from in between the 20 yard lines – that’s 60 yards, folks. There will also be over 3,000 smaller HD LED screens all around the stadium, including personal televisions in every locker for the athletes. There will also be independent power outlets, broadband data ports, and ceiling recessed projectors for team meetings during half time.

But the big ticket items will be the field level suite boxes and VIP areas right on the 50 yard line. The major selling point being that players will pass through the club VIP area as they make their way both on and off the playing field. Yeah, we’ll see how long that lasts. In addition, there will be over 300 private luxury suites - 50 of which that will circle the field at ground level (which is baffling considering ground level is the second worse seat in the house). Guests will be able to walk right onto the field during the game and stand right behind the teams.

There will also be a retractable roof which will open and shut within 12 minutes, nearly 1,000 concession stands, and end zone party sections that will seat up to 10,000 for concerts and other special events. Cost to build? $1.1 BILLION DOLLARS making it the most expensive stadium in history. It’ll open in time for the 2009 NFL season and will seat over 80,000.

As good as the SPINN is, we can't rave about iriver's newest PMP, the P20 launching today at IFA. Looks like our early excitement about the product back at CES was misplaced. First off, it's big -- a true brick by today's PMP standards. Also, we're not sold on the implementation of the SPINN interface here. The P20 uses a combination of vertical and horizontally placed thumb wheels, an "ok" button (why not just press in the thumbwheel like on the SPINN?), and touchscreen AMOLED -- a heap of overly-complex overkill based on our admittedly, limited time with the device. The touchscreen was also rendered unusable by menus only accessible by the thumbwheels as well as an incredibly high bezel framing the display thus inhibiting screen touches along the edges. As to the specs, it's everything we heard: 4.1-inch 480 x 272 pixel display, FM tuner, TV-out, voice recording, and integrated DMB TV option, 80GB or 120GB hard disk, and Li-Polymer battery for 12-hours of audio, 9-hours of video, or 8-hours of DMB in a 130 x 97 x 20.5-mm slab. Expected to launch in Korea next month at an undetermined price -- rest of world to be determined.

We've seen iriver's SPINN (above between the HTC Touch Dual and iPhone 3G) floating around Korea in pics and video for a few weeks now. But damn if this little 3.3-inch DAP doesn't make a distinct impression in person. Of course, you've heard the term "iPod killer" tossed around for years with obvious effect. But this, this little SPINN with brilliant OLED display and up to 16GB of storage looks to be device-for-device superior to the bigger iPod touch. The SPINN navigation is very well implemented and allows for natural and precise one-handed operation with heavy tactile control -- touchscreen too if that's your preference. Of course, making an iPod killer is about more than just the device -- it's the ecosystem of PC software, third party accessories, and daunting global distribution and retail model which faces any upstart vendor. On sale now in Korea, iriver hopes to address the latter piece of the puzzle as they prepare for a global (US, UK, and Europe) launch in September and October -- assuming they can sort out the necessary distribution / retail channels this week at IFA.

Gallery: Hands-on iriver's SPINN, the first true iPod killer

Continue reading Video: Hands-on iriver's SPINN, the first true iPod killer

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Han goes on to detail the computer's various ergonomic marvels including an artfully concealed keyboard, speaker set, CD/DVD player and docking port. If you are one of the legions of PC users now using their computers to watch films, this is a dream device that can't come true fast enough.

Sony announced a nice update to their line of GPS units. The Top of the line, billed as a luxury GPS, NV-U94T ($400 SRP) has an extra large screen at 4.8-inches (16:9 ratio), compared with the normal widescreen of 4.3-inches. The "T" means traffic which is fed through RDS-TMC system over the FM airwaves. The Bluetooth enabled unit will allow for handsfree calling on compatible phones. The unit also comes with Position Plus which uses an accelerometer to help guide you while you are moving through tunnels. A nice thing when you live in a place like Boston where there are multiple tunnels under the city with exit ramps. The Sony GPS line will continue to use a gesture command to control the unit with flicks of the finger; quick stroke means "Go Home" which can be a nice shortcut.

The NV-U84 ($350 SRP) is a more affordable extra large screen at 4.8-inches, while offering a lot of the features of the higher level NV-U94T, without the Bluetooth or traffic. The NV-U74T ($300 SRP) has a normal widescreen at 4.3-inches but includes such features as Bluetooth, traffic, and the gesture command.

The NV-U44 ($250 SRP) is a standard screen (3.5-inch) unit that offers text to speech, gesture command and a photo viewer.

Pre-orders are being taken at Sony Style, and a quick look there has a ship date of September 10th.

Full Press Release and more information after the jump...

Sony announced four new feature-packed nav-u™ personal navigation devices (models NV-U94T, NV-U84, NV-U74T and NV-U44) which add more brand icons, search functionality and photo viewing features.

"Sony is bringing entertainment to navigation," said Mike Kahn, director of marketing for mobile electronics products in the Sony Electronics' Digital Imaging and Audio Division. "We've added features that make it fun to spend time with the nav-u."

The top-of-the-line NV-U94T adds new features such as a photo viewer, audio/video player and stereo Bluetooth® technology for streaming audio and making hands-free phone calls using compatible devices.

The new photo viewer feature turns the screen into a picture frame. Camera owners can view their digital images by inserting a Memory Stick® into the Memory Stick Pro Duo slot. The new nav-u devices are the only personal navigation devices on the market that provide users with the ability to easily view images shot on Cyber-shot® cameras.

This feature also supports the JPEG format and plays back still images individually, in slideshow mode or via thumbnails.

The NV-U94T model also can play MP3 and non-DRM AAC music files and MPEG-4 video files from Memory Stick PRO Duo media. Sony has incorporated stereo Bluetooth® technology (A2DP profile) into the device. Audio can be streamed wirelessly from the nav-u device to a compatible Bluetooth-enabled car stereo system, including Sony's Xplod® MEX-BT2600 and MEX-BT5100 head units. Stereo Bluetooth maintains high-quality sound while streaming music.

<p ">

Hands-free calling is also supported. With a built-in microphone, drivers can use voice commands to initiate calls via compatible Bluetooth-enabled cell phones. Drivers can transfer their phone's address book over to the NV-U94T, which makes dialing a contact easier and safer. The phone dialing function is also linked to the points of interest (POI) database, enabling the user to search for a POI, such as a restaurant, and then call ahead for information.

For drivers who want a larger screen and all the top-end features, the NV-U94T model has a 4.8 inch (measured diagonally) 16:9 aspect ratio display. In addition to the entertainment features, it also includes the super suction cup mounting system, dual view 3D junction guide and POSITION plus™.

Stay on Course, Even Underground

The GPS satellites broadcast signals can easily be distorted by tall buildings, very dense foliage, or blocked altogether when underground. When this happens, GPS devices can easily give a false location. Sony developed POSITION plus to address the issue.

POSITION plus is a unique, hardware-based solution that consists of an acceleration sensor, a pressure sensor and a gyro sensor that together can calculate the vehicle's current position based on the last known GPS location. The result is a more consistent and accurate position that helps provide interruption-free guidance under the most difficult of GPS reception conditions.

Gesture command comes with all new nav-u devices and lets users jump to commands with one touch on the display. The new gesture command feature for forwarding photos lets users advance to the next picture, music track or video clip with a swipe of the finger from left to right across the screen. Other gesture commands include take me home, zoom in or out and call home.

Quickly Search Favorite Locations

One of the top benefits of owning a GPS system is the ability to find points of interest in unfamiliar areas. The new nav-u models feature a revised search algorithm for quicker POI searches. They also come with Quick Link, a new search feature with that enables a true "one touch" search for your favorite POI with the touch of a button.

Drivers can save any search string they like to one of their Quick Link buttons for one-touch searching. For example, if the drivers' favorite stores are Sony Style retail locations, they can save the term "Sony Style" to a Quick Link button and perform that search any number of times without having to retype the search string.

Brand icons help users quickly and easily identify their favorite restaurants, hotels, gas stations, stores and other locations while traveling through unfamiliar cities. Sony's new nav-u devices now have 30 percent more brand icons than last season's models (more than 150 brands), Users will automatically see brand icons appear on a map.

During address searches, the new nav-u systems can automatically complete partial entries of states, cities and street names. They come with nearly 5 million POIs and U.S. and Canadian maps, including Alaska, Canada, Hawaii and Puerto Rico, pre-installed on their flash memory.

Affordable Large Screen

The new NV-U84 model offers the best value in the large-screen segment. For about $350, drivers get a large 4.8 inch (measured diagonally) 16:9 aspect ratio display plus super suction cup, dual view text to speech, photo viewer and gesture command.

The NV-U74T has a 4.3 inch (measured diagonally) 16:9 aspect ratio display. It comes with a super suction cup, dual view, text to speech, Bluetooth hands free, real-time traffic, photo viewer, and gesture command.

The NV-U94T device's cradle has a built-in RDS-TMC real-time traffic receiver, while the NV-U74T model has its RDS-TMC function built into the main unit. With RDS-TMC real-time traffic functionality, the NV-U74T and NV-U94T devices can notify drivers in available coverage areas of up-to-date traffic conditions. The devices can automatically display the estimated number of minutes delay and if desired, can automatically reroute the driver around the incident. nav-u device owners will receive the first 90 days of real-time traffic free of charge. For continued traffic service, a subscription can cost as little as a few dollars per month after the initial trial period.

Most Economical

The new NV-U44 model has a 3.5 inch (measured diagonally) 4:3 aspect ratio display and a sleek, compact stylish design. It is feature rich with dual view, text to speech, photo viewer and gesture command, yet affordable at about $250.

Smaller, Greener Packaging

In line with Sony's environmental efforts, the NV-U74T, NV-U84 and NV-U94T models' outer shells are made with 50 percent post-consumer recycled materials. Certain other components, such as Sony's unique super suction cup and the flip-out GPS antenna, are made using at least 45 percent post-consumer recycled material.

Availability

Pre-orders for the nav-u personal navigation devices are now being accepted at www.sonystyle.com/navu. The NV-U94T, NV-U84, NV-U74T and NV-U44 nav-u personal navigation devices will be available in September for about $400, $350, $300 and $250 respectively.
