We enjoy sci-fi inspired styling here DVICE, and the OSIM uSpace doesn't disappoint. It's a full-body massage chair with a warmed seat and sensors that guide its airbag-style massaging cushions. Rather than just nubs that push into you like your average massage chair, the airbags surround whatever is being rubbed and apply an enveloping sense of pressure.

Sure, that's cool, but you're probably wondering what's up with that crazy escape pod shell at the head of the chair. Well, that's kind of what it is: It's a music-playing enclosure that will cycle through three different mood lighting programs, and sync up with your MP3 player to boot. On its website, OSIM says the shell was inspired by butterfly cocoons.

The OSIM uSpace seems well equipped to help you getaway for a little while, though it also costs as much as a vacation at $6,000. (Just between me and you, I'm hoping a uNaming meme doesn't become the next iSore.)

There are already a few home automation iPhone apps in the store, but here at CEDIA it's clear that all of the home automation heavies have definitely discovered the obvious: the iPhone makes for a great universal touchscreen remote for everything from your AC to your living room blinds to your music collection. And most of them won't make you pay the price of a snazzy dedicated touchscreen controller to get it, either. Most of them.

Of the apps by Crestron, Lifeware, Z-Wave and Control4 we've seen here at CEDIA, Crestron's seems to be farthest along (pictured above). It can control multiple rooms in multiple houses all via Wi-Fi or AT&T data, and is a free download and add-on. Z-Wave, probably the most accessible system that you don't have to have a Cribs-worthy home to run, will sadly charge you $10 a month for the privilege of freaking out your pets while you're on vacation or locking your doors from bed. Lifeware's app is still in its nascent stages, but it will pack more Media Center integrations (in case you're running the baddest Media Center in the world).
Control4's app (above) is the least impressive—the first version will only work in your home on the same Wi-Fi network as your system, which is puzzling. And it'll cost you a "license" that will likely be "over $100 and less than $500," to make up for lost touchscreen remote revenue.

All the apps are currently getting finishing touches, but each will be available before year-end. For now, check out iViewer.

Six thousand, six hundred and sixty-two posts after I first started writing here at Gizmodo, I'm about to type the words that I never thought would ever dribble forth from my keyboard: I'm the new editor of Gizmodo. After working with Joel Johnson, John Biggs and Brian Lam all these years and absorbing all the lessons and insights about blogging they left in this sweat, tear and who-knows-what-else-stained Editor's hat, it's time for me to pick it up and shove my head in.

Brian will of course still be around in his new position as editorial director, but the new title gives me a chance to help take Gizmodo from being the best written, most interesting and most readable gadget blog out there to the site that everybody—even people who are only kinda into tech—can't wait to consume every single day. Of course, there's nobody more responsible than the guys who are working here with me every day (Adam, Adrian, Benny, Chris, Dan, Dave, Elaine, Jack, Jesus, John, John, Kit, Logan, Mark, Matt, Sean and Wilson), who help make Giz my, and your, favorite place to pass the time, be entertained and be informed. How we're going to continue to do this in the future is to go beyond just covering trade shows, gadget news or even writing phenomenal features, but to expand and tap into the entire culture of what it means to be a gadget fan.

The new gig also calls for me taking on more management duties, which means you'll seldom see any more 12-post days from me unless the entire East Coast, Midwest and West Coast teams are wiped out from a sexy robot uprising. But that doesn't mean you won't see me on the site; the number one reason why Gizmodo is the best job I could ever dream of isn't because of all the cool tech we get to see, but because we get to write, and do so in the most unfiltered environment you can imagine for a publication of this size.

Here's what the news hopefully means for you: more of what you like, less of what you don't. My email's always open, so drop me a message when you've got an opinion about how we're doing. Gracias.

Some more good news: that photo above was taken when I was on vacation last week, right before I got engaged to the unlucky lady whose shoulder is the only thing remaining after I cropped the rest of her out (she's shy).

[Dilbert Strip]

Apologies to Professor Farnsworth for aping his phrase.

This allows the Samsung S860 to take detailed photos for printing up to poster size. With the Face Detection AF & AE function, the Samsung S860 enables the user to take better portrait pictures more easily. This function detects faces and automatically focuses on them. The brightness of the faces is adjusted optimally for beautiful portrait pictures. In macro shooting, it is now possible to take clear, natural pictures. Digital Image Stabilization (DIS) technology prevents the degradation of image clarity and color, which is sometimes found in flash photography. With DIS the effects of image blur are reduced in lower light conditions. You can even take well-exposed, sharper pictures in low light conditions without using a flash at all, which guarantees brighter and more natural pictures. The different icons, scene modes and other features are described in simple and easy to understand terms to improve the interaction between the user and camera. ISO - Auto, 80, 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1000 Flash Modes - Auto, Auto & Red-eye reduction, Fill-in flash, Slow sync, and Flash off Range - Wide 0.3m - 4.0m and Tele 0.5m - 2.1m (ISO AUTO) Self-timer - 2 seconds and 10 seconds Still Image File Format - JPEG (DCF), EXIF 2.2, and DPOF 1.1 Scene Modes - Children, Landscape, Close-up, Text, Sunset, Dawn, Backlight, Fireworks, Beach & Snow, and Night System Requirements - Pentium II 450MHz (Pentium 800MHz recommended), Windows 98SE, 2000, ME, XP, Vista, Mac OS 9.2, 10.4 or later, 64MB RAM, 200MB free space, USB port, CD-ROM drive, 1024x768 pixels, 16-bit color display compatible monitor, Microsoft DirectX 9.0C Dimensions - Approximately Width 3.66 x Height 2.44 x Depth 1.04 (93x62x26.5mm) Weight - 123 grams

Customer Reviews

It does not work - I am so crucially disappointed! (2008-09-02)
My samsung does not work. I have used one quite similar, for on the job photos, and wanted my own for a long awaited vacation and family reunion. I did not get a single picture. the LCD view finder goes completed BLACK in any outdoor light. so many missed shots! no outdoor pictures! I would have been better off with a $6.99 disposable from the drugstore. Is there Someone that knows why this happens? I am broken-hearted and sick to my stomach at the money I wasted, and the lost memories. I have never, ever heard of a camera that does not work outside!

Great camera for the price! (2008-08-29)
I chose this camera because I was on a strict budget, but (obviously) looking for the highest quality camera on the market. I've had this Samsung for a few weeks now, and have not been disappointed at all! The photographs are easy to take and come out gorgeous thanks to the 8.1 megapixels. There are also a variety of basic features and settings you can play around with in addition to the automatic one. The lag between the actual taking of a picture and when you can take another one is longer than I had hoped, but not unbearable. That is why I rated it only 4 out of 5 stars. This is a great camera for the price, I would definitely reccomend it for a friend.

NEAT LITTLE CAMERA (2008-08-28)
I bought this camera for my daughter when she went to camp. I didn't want her take the good one, but I did want her to have a camera. The AA batteries meant she didn't have to worry about charging, and taking extra kit. It has good zoom and face recognizing function, takes video and has different image functions. For $90 it was a bargain, I didn't buy the SD card with it though because, it shipped separately and incurred a shipping fee, so we bought that a local electronics store. Haven't seen it at the same price since though.

My Camera's the best! (2008-08-27)
I keep discovering many wonderful features for this product everyday..it's just terriffic!...even came with a free case and battery charger...what a thotful combination from Amazon...thanks!

Samsung S860 Power Problems (2008-08-26)
I hate this camera. Wish I could return it . I did just get i back from " repair" under warranty and it still isn't right.
It will not power on.. Sometimes if I jiggle the batteries it will come on, sometimes not. Sometimes taking the batteries out and putting them back in works, sometimes not. Real fun when you are trying to take a picture!
The last thing that happened before I returned it was the shutter stuck open.
I got it back today, put in two brand new AA batteries ( the recommended ones) and it still doesn't come on.
So......I learned that my next camera will not have AA batteries!
I am envious of you that have no problems with it.

tags : gadget

By Andrew Liszewski

I’m not a Trekkie by any stretch of the imagination, but I’ve enjoyed some of the Star Trek TV shows and movies (ok, really just TNG) and I have to admit I’m just a little sad to see that Star Trek: The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton has closed. I don’t know how many times I’ve been on the ride, or ate at the restaurant, but whenever I was in Vegas for a trade show or vacation, I made sure to stop by. And while some parts of Vegas can be pretty tacky, I have to say the Star Trek: Experience was really first class, with loads of props used in the TV shows and films on display, and some decent interactive rides. (Consider yourself at a loss if you never experienced the transporter effect there.)

Unfortunately in the end a dispute over the lease between the attraction’s owner, Cedar Fair Entertainment Co., and the Las Vegas Hilton is what brought the decades old Star Trek attraction to a close. I’m not sure how they intend to re-purpose that space, since that part of the Las Vegas Hilton is saturated in a science-fiction theme, but I do know that Trekkie’s all over the world are pouring a Warp Core Breach on the curb in remembrance.

I haven't had the chance to conpare this unit to the readings at the doctors office (taking them at the same time). But I have taken readings at the drug store and then 5 min later taking it at home. It does seem to give true readings. They has never been any really off readings. No wild swings.
It is very easy to use and comes with good instructions and a nice carrying case. Makes it easy to take on vacation with you. AC adapter makes it where you don't have to worry about dead batteries.

2. Just received, put it together and checked BP without even readng the instructions. Compared to a manual reading, accurate with in 6mm hg. Even comes with batteries. Over all a great monitor and one I would recommend for my patients.

Hey all. Labor day's always signaled the true end of summer to me, and this year, it marks many changes and breaks for the Giz team. Jason's taking a last minute vacation to some tropical destination, and I spent the day finding a ski cabin and getting ready for the upcoming snowboarding season. Jesús is leaving Berlin and getting back home before moving; Mark and Wilson are settling into new homes in new cities; Adam is in Cape Cod; John Herrman is ending his internship and returning to Scotland in a few days; CES prep starts to warm up. We rest so that we can brace ourselves and resist the rush of new gadgets the companies want to shove down our gullets. So, we're taking the holiday weekend to post a little less and relax a little more. If you end up missing us more than you can bear, here's a link to our most recent top stories and features. Otherwise, we'll see you on Tuesday.
