We’ve known the Omnia has been coming for some time - we’ve even seen the Ads in the sunday newspaper today - but what is the total cost of all that marketing and advertising in the UK? Well, according to Mobile News, we now have an answer……

….. and the answer is nearly £5m!

The Omnia has come at somewhat an awkward time, in so much as the established competition (a certain Apple device) is selling like the proverbial ‘hotcakes’, and other newcomers such as the Nokia N96, and Sony Ericsson Xperia are looming on the horizon.

So it would appear Samsung is going to address this by dumping a ton of cash in to making sure that everyone and his mate knows about this device! Oh, and the global marketing campaign is going to hit around £24m, just in case you were wondering.

In the UK at least, Samsung has qualified their spend to say it covers advertising in the press, online, and also outdoor (in ‘the street’ so to speak), but no TV Ads. So I think once it is done, we are all going to be pretty aware of this touch-based smartphone….

I’ve still got to wonder though - does that UI layer that Samsung have added to WinMo really make it competitive with the iPhone’s native UI? Best get myself down the local mobile shop and find out!!

Envy 133 was developed using the smallest Intel Centrino technology and several elements from an innovative Intel reference design. Envy 133 only measures 0.7” and can be purchased in white or black. It only weighs 3.4 lbs and has a 13.3” display. Its case is made out of carbon-fiber microweave and consists of a touchpad and a Wi-Fi-to-Ethernet bridge.

Te touchpad allows you to do some touch tricks such as circular scrolling known as chiral. Since it is equipped with an Aura PowerConnect Ethernet, you have the access to a point-to-point Wi-Fi. Just plug in the Ethernet and you can get connected even after you have unplugged the laptop from its power brick.

Other features include a proximity sensor, a Dolby Sound Room surround-sound processing for speakers or headphones, a pre-installed LoJack software, 2 USB ports, a 13.3” backlit LED display, replaceable battery which has an approximate of 3.45 hours of life, an integrated webcam, an ID-coordinated external optical drive, wireless connectivity given by its integrated wireless 802.11 ABGN + Bluetooth and many more.

It is being sold at $2, 099.00.

Like your laptops available in soft, colorful tones? Looking for something a bit entry level? Fujitsu may have just the thing for you. The company has just introduced its L1010 mid-priced laptop (in Asia, at least), and it looks like just the right thing if you're not trying to break the bank or win friends and influence others. The L1010 packs a Core 2 Duo CPU atop the PM45/GM45 Express Chipset, a 1280 x 800, 14.1-inch LCD display, an NVIDIA 9300M GS graphics card with 256MB of RAM, WiFi, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, and HDMI outs. The laptops come in white and pink gold, black, turquoise blue, pink and purple color configurations, though the press release somehow fails to make mention of RAM or hard drive options. Fujitsu is mum on price and release date, but we'd say not too expensive, and fairly soon.

[Via iTech News Net]

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Few days ago, Samsung has announced the “European wide market availability” of its iPhone-killin’ i900 Omnia smartphone. Currently, the all-touchscreen device is available in Italy, Netherlands, and Germany; and will be available in most of European countries including UK, France, Spain from September.

And that’s about all we have from the Samsung’s release. In the rest of the text they’re talking how Europeans crave for multimedia features on their mobile phones and even provide data to prove it…

Here’s the link to the full release if you care to know more.

The Sony Ericsson TM506 is now available on T-Mobile. You should be able to grab it everywhere, but the point is to use it on the mobile operator’s 3G network — that’s in case you’re lucky enough to live in one of the areas where T-Mobile’s 3G works. Aside from the 3G radio, the device sports a GPS with TeleNav support, 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, music player, and a Memory Stick Micro (M2) slot. It’s available for $79.99 with a 2-year agreement and $50 mail-in rebate…
